My son's school has recently banned the use of mobile phone inside the school. Do you really think whether the school should have initiated this or the parents/guardians ?

The use of mobile phones has been banned in most schools for a very long time...I'm surprised it has come up just now in your son's school. I think it is perfectly fine for the school to have initiated this, because mobile phones are a huge distraction for the students. If the kids are texting all the time during class, then they aren't paying attention to the lecture or the work. If they're using their phones at lunch to do anything, it's taking time away from doing make-up work, talking to teachers, participating in clubs, and even taking away from their time to hang out with their friends that are right there. They'd much rather be talking to someone far away and not making friends at the school. The parents should also be helping with this, though, if they want their kids to have a good education and not be constantly distracted.

I liked this response. In addition I suggest that schools should provide mobile phones in each class which should be in locked custody of the class teacher who may allow the student to use it in case of any distress.

Yeah, sure...or it could just be any phone in general that can be used in emergencies. There is no reason that it needs to be a cell phone, and even less reason that each kid needs to have their own at the school. That would work better and limit the use of phones in class and there's no way that it could become a distraction.

Well, my school once adapted the same rule and it was little ridiculous yet helpfull preventing sms-cheater. The restriction came to the surface when a student tried to text answer to friend while doing exam. The teacher caught the student, and what could the student say ? Nothing, but apologize. After that, bringing mobile phone to school was something prohibited and breach it can result in your mobile phone being kept by the officials.

Regardless of what rules the school sets out for mobile phones, children and teens will bring their phones to school. Schools and parents will continue to play the run-around game until people realize that phone's are necessary for children's safety in and outside of school. We need to take advantage of technology and use it to our benefit. My solution is that schools should make the students turn their phones off while in class, but allow them to use them on lunch and recess or breaks. Phones were banned in my school and I had one every year and brought it everyday. Tell your children to keep it on vibrate, if your child is using the phone properly there should be no suspicion or reason to search.

I think the ban is right. The children can not control themselves, maybe they will play cellphone in class and it will affect their study..The rule in school is good. And parents should care this too.Maybe communication with your child is not conviniet but it is ok.In school, their task is studying and do not have time to play cellphone and no time to use it,of course, the point is they are no nessecery to use it..so just accept the ban,and persuade your friend to accept it.It is good for your son.

I think that as long as the children do not use the mobiles in class then i don't see why not. ok so you can't completly stop this and there's also a risk of the phones children bring can be stolen or children can be bullied into giving the bully their phone. but the advantages are that they can keep in contact maybe with their parents all the time and if there ever in trouble they can call someone for help.

There should be a ban of using mobile phones in the class. The use of mobile phones outside the class is not a big deal. But if a student brings mobile phone to school then there is every chance that he/she will use it during class hours. It is very disturbing when phone rings during lectures.
I don't support the ban of mobile phones in the school campus. Many of the parents always remain worried when there children becomes late to reach home from school. So it is always better to carry a mobile phone. It is of no harm.
