1. In Illinois, the law is that a car must be driven with the steering wheel.
2. In New York, it is against the law for a blind person to drive an automobile.
3. In Georgia, it is against the law to slap a man on the back or front.
4. In Kentucky, it's the law that a person must take a bath once a year.

Hello krupesh. It is really so strange with those American laws that make me laugh. It does not make much sense though. Anyway, thank you so sharing.

okkkkkk....I wonder if whoever made this law up had a car that used a lever or something else to steer with?

of course, a car should be with a steering wheel.
how can a blind person see the road when he drives a car?
so in Georgia, you can only slap a man on his sides, cheeks?
kentucky could be what? ow, kentucky people stinks?
well i don't know any law in our country that sounds like that.

Hi Krupesh,
It is silly laws for some news, slapping a man on the back in very common in our country, just giving him a surprise manner to greet somebody, nobody will be mad for this. Fore sure, the strange laws arise is just because the demands required in the local. It should not be popped up just by the government at their will. It can remind us, study the culture before you get into the local in case any violence occurred.

Yes, those are silly laws. I found a few too, for California, the state I live in
It is a misdemeanor to shoot at any kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale.
No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles per hour.
Peacocks have the right of way to cross any street, including driveways.
I know at the time they made the laws that they must have made sense but looking at them now, they're just ridiculous!!

That's what makes it so funny, I don't think we do have lots of peacocks running around in California!! I only know of one park that has them, otherwise they're mostly in zoos. Weird law!

Sorry - did u say "at the time they made the laws that they must have made sense"? I wonder how "No vehicle without a driver may exceed 60 miles" could ever have made sense. And in so far as whale is concerned, may be the lawmaker was meant motorboat when he used the word vehicle. I think law books are boring. So these things are deliberately stuffed in so that the law students do not fall asleep while reading those volumes. Any thoughts on this horsesrule?

Yes I have heard of strage laws too. I have read about them before the internet. why they exist I do not know. but they were passed a very long time ago. I think that they were passed at time when the reason why the behavor was an big issue at the time.

The first two of those laws don't seem very strange to me. Don't forget that America is the nation where people can buy hot coffee, spill it over themselves, then sue the restaurant for selling them hot coffee without warning them that hot coffee is hot. Maybe lawmakers felt they should set up laws like that just in case.
Anyways, I think I heard somewhere that Utah has a law forbidding whaling. Utah doesn't have whales.

that was interesting...i wonder if anyone gets booked for violating such rules. i had seen a program which listed such obsolete laws in India, although i don't remember any of those laws, but the theme was that such laws are best forgotten and rarely put to use.

As far as the ones that you've mentioned, to me number one and number two are just common sense. As far as number three and number four I have no clue why they were made law. I am actually from Kentucky so I really found the fourth one to be hiliarious. I wonder, do they mean that you have to actually sit down in the bathtub and soak at least once a year, because if they do, then I know a lot of people that need to be fined for this.
Another funny law that is here in Kentucky is that it is illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket.
I actually do know the rationale behind this one though. It is because back in the days when people rode horses for transportation, crimnal types would lure away the horses with sweets that they carried in their pocket.

I love looking up strange laws from around the world. Here's a couple from Oklahoma, where I live, which you'd want to bear in mind if you ever visit:
1.) It's illegal to hunt whales (We're about 400 miles from the nearest ocean)
2.) If you make 'ugly faces' at dogs, you could be fined or thrown in jail.
(Save the faces for the cats, I guess...)
Some laws are so odd, it makes you wonder what people were thinking when they made them. Are there any funny laws from your country?

haha.. Krupesh, this is such a great discussion.
I lived in Georgia!!! But I had no idea that a law like this existed. Luckily, I didn't break it.. haha.
Unfortunately, I don't know any such laws. But I am going to come back and check this discussion in later, to see what people have to offer.lol

1. In Illinois, the law is that a car must be driven with the steering wheel.
= Has any one been driving with only bike pedals or keyboards in the computer? who would be stupid enough to drive with out a steering wheel??
2. In New York, it is against the law for a blind person to drive an automobile.

= And what if the person is simply wearing glasses and a a bit drunk when he hit the post, is it still consider under that law?
3. In Georgia, it is against the law to slap a man on the back or front.
= There should be a law that says it's against it to punch a woman back or front or kick her between her legs
4. In Kentucky, it's the law that a person must take a bath once a year.
= I swear, if the law is compulsary for a person to take a bath only once in a year i would never dare go to that state
Who the heck sign these lawS? comedians who were in the senate or congress? this is one heck of a joke...have a great day

I don't think these are really laws, they are like loopholes that people found that makes it illegal to do something. There not actually written like that.
