Friends comforting you in vain?

Does any of you have friends that only seem to be able to offer the sort of comforting words that come in vain? For example, they promise to pay you a whole good deal of attention... to lift your spirit or otherwise to just focus a bit more on the things you had been doing together, but, in the end, a few days later he/she is tending to anyone's attention needs but your own. Happens to anyone else, or I just pick lousy friends?
