I'm so happy that this instruction came with new travel hairdryer I was just pulling from its wrappings otherwise I might have been tempted to try to both wash and dry my hair at the same time. How many people out there can so so stupid as to actually need this instruction?
What other patronising instructions written for idiots have you come across?

I've read quite a lot of those patronizing instructions. I bought some rope to use as clothesline and it came with instructions!!!!! Yeah, really... rope. I think you'd have to be pretty darned stupid to not know how to use rope.
I've seen those instructions on hair dryers, too. I think, "How in the world could anyone be so stupid as to try using their hair dryers in water?" But, there are people out there that stupid. Believe me, I've known a few!
Also, these days it seems that everybody is suing everybody so the manufacturers are only covering their butts with those instructions. They can't be sued by the idiots who try to wash and dry their hair at the same time as long as they have those instructions and warnings on their packaging.
I can see the reason for it. I just have a hard time realizing that there really are people out there who are that stupid.

You know, I knew perfectly well how to use that rope and what I was going to do with it until AFTER I read the instructions. Then, I was so dumbfounded that I couldn't think of anything else.
Well, okay, I was dumbfounded after I had laughed myself silly at seeing those instructions. It just hurts my brain to know that there are people smart enough to drive a car to the store and purchase that rope, yet be so stupid as to not know how to use it.

I forgot to mention that I had a friend once who was so stupid she couldn't boil water. I'm sure everyone has heard that expression, "Too dumb to boil water"; well, I knew one! Yep. She would put water on to boil to cook something or other and forget it was on the stove, then it would all boil away and the pot would burn up. She did this more than once!
She once made me some chicken soup, although I had to ask her what it was when she presented it to me. Seems she put in whole chicken parts (with the bones still attached) AND noodles in the water at the same time. Yeah, those noodles cooked so much that they were nothing but mush, indistinguishable as noodles. Plus, picking out the bones from the soup was a new adventure for me. LOL

Didn't your friend have any instructions with her seive? Is your friend perchance related to one of the farm animals? I feel like saying can there really be people that stupid, but of course you've just demonstrated that there are.
Hope the washing line is fine, do send it my best

Hi Thea.. We have a kiddie pool, its not more then 3 inches of water deep. it says not to dive into this pool because it could result in severe injury.. WHO the HECK is going to dive into 3 inches of water.. If they are dumb enough to do so, i doubt they could read the instructions and comprehend them!!

Hi sissygrl, I was actually eating then I think I may have choked on a prawn, do not dive, that's brilliant.
You raise the point that anyone stupid enough to need these instructions wouldn't be the the brightest star in the first place and certainly wouldn't be able to read, so who are these written instructions intended for except the illeterate?

Thanks for the reminder,Thea!..It's been a while since I checked out the Darwin Awards Website! That's probably where most of the contenders for a "Darwin" got started, doing something dumb like a "Wash and Dry" under a shower!

The "Wash and dry" would be the combination of the shower and hairdrying activities at the same time..I hadn't actually thought about the products you might use when doing this activity, but AFAIK There IS a Shampoo out there called "Wash and Go"..It Seems appropriate, doesn't it!

Quite Hatley, there's not much more to say than duh is there. It's true though, and it was in English and Greek. We've had the knife one already but not the computer one, funny. There's a brilliant one about a towel above you Hatley if you didn't see it. I just don't know how civilisation lasted so long without all these instructions.

Hi thea - I came to know of this thru one of Sidney Sheldon's books and not thru instruction manual. . And now that u mention it, I will be reading most of the instructions studiously I suppose. :) In any event, I dont think I would have ever tried that. I do realize what can happen when an electrical gadget and water come into contact!

Hi Vandana, that's exactly the point, we'd be looking at the most stupid person ever who thought he could dry his hair in the shower with a hairdryer. I presume these instructions were written for men
Certainly best to always read the instructions carefully in case another little gem like that one is printed.

I save those packs that come with food items and put them in the jar with dried foods like flour, sugar etc.

Hi uath, silicon, that's the word I was grasping for earlier when this one first came up, but not too ludicrous as they do tend to look like those little packets of airline salt. As I suggested earlier these should be removed and placed inside any cupboards which have a tendency to mould, just the trick

Some of my favorites are found on hair spray, shaving cream and Preparation H. On the hair spray and cans of shave cream "do not use near open flame". DUH!!! As the lady goes into work with no hair...I was cooking breakfast and spraying my hair to keep it in place!
Prep H has the warning "Not to be taken internally". Humm, those people busily kissing their bosses A$$ had better be careful and not suck on the tubes of Prep H that the boss stuck up his butt.
Like on some packages of razors: Not for use by small children.
You think that people are smarter than needing these instructions...but after following a woman down a very dangerous section of freeway that was under construction and limited to two lanes going each direction, I learned otherwise. She was going 80 mph, eating breakfast, applying make up, then doing her hair and talking on the cell phone and finally after she finished with her hair and still while on the cell phone she started to apply mascara! I did a LOT of praying on that trip as it was rush hour and it was a well traveled highway!

Hi Lbear, maybe the first one came about with some woman spraying her hair in candlelight during a power cut, it is still essential to maintain perfect grooming in the dark afterall. And a better one for the razor blades would be not for use by men incapable of shaving without walking round with loo roll stuck to their faces for the rest of the day.
Your mad car woman driver, that's just standard at here except we have hair pin bends

Well, LBear, over here they actually sit around in little groups smoking at the petrol stations, they only put them out when the tanker arrives with a refill.
Also most places did provide ashtrays under the no smoking signs, not to put them out in but so the ash wouldn't get on the floor. I said did as Europe is trying to introduce a ban and it's not going to work, who could they possibly employ to implelment it.

I can't think of anything really right now. That was funny though! I guess any packaging material comes to mind. Especially the little packets of stuff. I know that adults know not to eat it, when it comes to kids, well who's going to be stupid enough to give a kid a non edible packaging material?

Scuppered that means ruined right? lol... Is that a greek word?
Oh and it's packages that look like salt packages, so I guess in that way it may be a good idea to put a hazard on it... I don't know what the actual stuff in it is though.

Unfortunately I never read those instructions or tags that are attached to the products..I go right to "how to put together" sections..lol...but I will be a little different here...they now have a bumper sticker on all the school buses over here for people like me who didn't know...."This bus stops at all Railroad Crossings". If I had known that before, I wouldn't have plowed into the rearend of one when it stopped short at the crossing..lol; So, some instructions are good! lol

Hi Sweetchariot, what can you be thinking of never reading the instructions, I was about to say that must be a male tendency then came to the bit about reading the assembly instructions. What I do is open the packaging, then get someone round of the male persuasion to assemble, and they invariably never refer to the instructions, ever. Luckily i was able to piece the round bit to the front of the hairdryer without either an instruction of assistance from a male.

I needed that this morning to wake me up...I really can't think of any right now but maybe I will and come back to post then. I just had to say something to you and of course thank you for the laugh. You are right with the stupid warnings on some products..Have a nice day...

Darn that blows my whole night ! This all sounds logical to us ,but if you watch the news its easy to see, many know nothing about common sense.I worked for a doctor one time that had no idea how to make a cup of instant coffee And that's only the tip of the ice burg.People here are often ignorant idiots by choice.

Hi Capsi, think you've been here beforebut as always nice of you to drop by (again). Actually the doctor knew perfectly well how to make a cup of instant coffee, that's a common ploy just to make sure someone else always makes the coffee. I pretended I didn't know how to use the hoover for years, and got away with it - made out it was too technical, well it was a bit

The really sad part is that they probably had to put that warning on there because some moron actually tried to do that. I noticed on cans of Dr. Pepper there is a warning that the contents are under pressure and not to open it too close to your face. I can only imagine the law suit that brought that one on. Thanks for the intertaining discussion.

This is so interesting. I once saw a label of a flat iron which says "Do not iron clothes on body". My sister also told me about this but I dont know if it's true or if she was just joking, it's from a superman costume and it says "This product doesn't enable you to fly". Lol
