Cat Dry Food vs. Wet Food

I have 2 cats that must have their wet food. They will occasionally touch the dry. My other cat loves her dry food. She'll pick at the wet food if it's there, but she'd rather crunch on her dry. What do your cats prefer? Do you find one better than the other for your cat? Better breath, coat etc...

I have tried the wet cat food for all three of my cats but they get sick from it so we stick with dry and they dont seem to mind it. All three are very healthy

I like to stick with the dry also, as it seems to create less chances of spit up. But my 2 really enjoy their wet, so I give them a little to make them happy. The other kitty loves her dry. They all are healthy too thank goodness. Thanks so much for your comment.

Contrary to popular belief, cats do have sensitive tummies too. My cat Purr cannot digest dry food so I don't give him any. He also gets very sick when I give him dry food so when I plan their meals (I have three other cats) it has to be a balance of wet and dry. I have also found out that there are cat food brands (dry) that my cats really cannot tolerate. I tried this not so known brand because I was kinda short of cash and didn't want to give them human food. My foolishness cost me more because I had to throw the cat food away because none of the cats would touch it.

One of my cats also has a more sensitive tummy than the others. I'm careful which brands I buy as some do affect him more. I've also stopped giving them any unknown brands, as it didn't seem to agree with my one cat. The other two are ok with pretty much any brands, but I give them all the same food. I do give them more dry food than wet. I actually have this problem with my dog. He can only have dry food and only lamb and rice. Anything else makes him sick. Thanks so much for your comment!

My husband and I just split up about 2 months ago and I am VERY low on money so I didnt want to spend my money that I needed to spend on my childrens needs to feed the cats that my husband wouldnt take when he moved into a new place. I had a bunch of meat in the freezer so I fed them that until I ran out. I dont eat meat so it wasent like I was missing out on anything by feeding it to my cats. I gave them ground beef and london broil and ham and hot dogs. They LOVED eating that food. Now that I have run out of meat I have to give them cat food again. Its a brand I never bought before and they do not like it. My cat threw up about 5 times after eating it last night. I was so disgusted having to follow that cat around and clean up piles of vomit.

Mine prefer to have the dry only. When I feed them wet food they only lick off the gravy and leave the "meat" there. They'd rather have some scrap chicken or pork chops in their dish.

Contrary to popular belief, canned food is much better for a cat than is dry. Cats are obligate carnivore; they must eat meat in their diet. Dry food is mostly carbohydrates; it sticks to their teeth in a paste; it does not clean them. Cats generally swallow the kibbles without chewing anyway. Cats who are properly hydrated don't necessarily drink water. Canned food provides plenty of moisture for your cat. My 3 cats eat canned food exclusively. All are healthy and happy. They get 3 oz in the morning and another 3 oz in the evening. I don't leave the food out to get crusty and yucky. Whatever isn't eaten is taken away after half an hour. Good luck with your choice of food. My clowder eats Wellness, Merrick and Natural Balance.

My cats are exceptionally fussy! At first I started them off with dry food, always making sure they had a bowl of fresh water to keep them hydrated. But after a short while they started to leave their food alone. I worried that they wouldn't eat anything so I rushed out to get some top brand wet cat food, and they seemed to wolf that down fairly quickly. Though once again after a few weeks they began leaving their food. I decided to try a cheaper, store's own brand of cat food and thankfully they munched away at that. It's been a good few months and my cats are happily enjoying their meals of cheap cat food. It's a positive for me too as it is quite a bit cheaper! They get biscuits as a treat now and again, but other than that they're quite content with their dry food!

Well, because of the NUMBER of cats I have, I mostly feed them dry, but Pong (because he's post surgery to having his teeth pulled back in July), Solo (because he needs the surgery) and Sassy (because she's OLD) all get a can of wet every day, and the baby, Jool, barges in because she's the baby. We could cut her off from the wet, she's old enough to eat just dry, but the roomie hasn't had the heart to do so. If you want to know HOW many cats I have, check out some of the other discussions...

I feed my cat both wet and dry food. I think there are many things that cats can eat and like. I just htink there are lots of good things for cats but mostly commerical cat food is the way to go. I think dry food is better for their teeth but wet food may be the best thing for their coat. I like my cat and will always try to do what is best for him.

my cat prefers both for a balanced meal throughout the day. in the morning, he eats 1 can of moist can food, then he goes lounges in his cat tree and enjoys the window view. in the evening, he comes down for some dry food. and at night, he gets some cat treats as a snack. he is a male cat and he eats like a man.

my cats prefer dry food rather than wet food..when you give them the food that vets claim the best,i only find their food in the dry version like Iams or science diet brand. when i started o give my cat dry food they resist to eat wet food anymore...gosh..i don't know either they more prefer to dry food or expensive food because because the dry food is more expensive than the wet one in my country.

HI Realan I give my cat Jinx dry food I feed him Science Diet its a bit expensive but its really good for him I feed him the indoor hairball control. I have had him for a year and a half and not one hairball has he coughed up and I'm so glad because those things just look right nasty..Eeeewwwww. He's very healthy but I have to take him to the groomers to get his nails clipped because he just won't allow us to do it and I don't want to hurt him by clipping his nails the wrong way. Anyway I really like the Science Diet thats all we feed him and its dry food the wet cat food in my opinion just smells bad after it sets in the bowl and gets hard . LOL
