What is Search Engine Optimization?

I have heard this term many a times, but I know very little about it. I know that it is related to websites and the way search engines operate. I don't know if I am right or not. Please, if anyone knows anything about this then please share some details here.

SEO- Search Engine Optimization is when you place keywords in your website to make them more visible by the search engines. If you have a site about having a baby you want all the possible keywords placed in as meta tags. the more keywords you have the better chance your website will be seen by search engines.
