Just recently my granddaughter has asked me to buy her a computer, for her birthday, which is next month. My delima is what to buy her. They live in a trailer and she doesn't have much room. My daughter wanted a regular PC but I thought with the limited living space a laptop would be more suitable.
My granddaughter like the idea of a laptop instead of a PC, yet with all the ones on the market today, dell, mac, etc. I'm having a hard time choosing.
So my question today is Do you have a favorite brand of labtop or Pc, if so why and which do you prefer laptop or PC? Also, what is the difference between them?

What kind of computer to get really depends on what your granddaughter intends to use it for.
The space issue is a valid one and with a laptop it is something that has the option of your granddaughter being able to take it to multiple locations with her if she needs to.
So is this something that she will need a lot of storage with? Whether laptop or desk top you can consider adding to her storage by getting her flash drive stick, sandisk cruzer is the best quality for that.
When it comes to laptop she is better off not using a mac unless they have improved a great deal in the last year or so they are not as good if you want desktop then you may want pc or mac both have great features.
Since your granddaughter is interested in a laptop, and there is a space issue that may be the way to go, remember this means a smaller screen as most desktop computers have 17in or larger monitors now.
The best idea would be to check otu what offers Dell, Hewlet Packard, and other such places are offering, also check with stores such as best buy and such to find out what deals may be available, get the most size for your money, by size I mean memory and storage size.
I would suggest that you avoid Acer, while I had a decent lap top for little money I fortunately had the warrenty for it, and with the Acer laptops they tend to need to go through the process of the factory reboot to keep them working.
However Acer desktop is one where you can get a lot of computer for a lower price, that works well the only flaw with this would be the letters wear off the keyboard within a month so you may want to get another keyboard if you go that way.
Another important thing would be that no matter what you purchase, desktop laptop whatever and most especially if you make the purchase from Best Buy open the box before leaving the store,
I purchased a lap top at Best Buy it was a lemon, they honored the 30 day guarentee they had and switched the computer out for another, the problem is they switched it out for a used computer ... when I tried to get them to honor this they said they wouldn't because based on the wear on the keyboard keys it was obviously a used computer when I pointed out that I got it that way they insisted I didn't.
When I contacted Acer they said I would have to resolve this with Best Buy, Best Buy said I would need to resolve it with Acer.
So it is very important to check the equipment before you leave the store. Especially if going to Best Buy or Walmart for electronics.

Oh thank you, I'll know not to buy acer or used computers or laptops. Plus check it before I leave the store. Wow I didn't know they could resell used computer, unless it was on the internet. So that was good advice and I'll remember to check the things I purchase next time.

They are still claiming they didn't sell me a used compupter, and they can't resell it as new which is why the store is not owning up to it, and since it left the store with out being opened in front of them they can claim I am trying to pull a switch. Which wasn't the case but it does happen I am sure, and I am forced to wonder if perhaps someone who works in the store maybe pulled a switch with their lemon, for my good one, and resealled the box with out the store knowing about it. Good luck with your purchase.
Also it is important to have a good antivirus program, usually puters come with free trial of norton or mcafee.
I would recommend you get www.avira.com and download their free antivirus program works great and it is is free. You can purchase one from www.avira.com but really don't need to their free one works great, the upgrades in the one you purchase are more for corporate and business use.

I totally agree with every word he said in this response. I think that Mac are really great my instructor have a mac and it really has no problem and you don't need to worry on viruses since there are only few viruses running in the apple operating system or the mac. I would also recommend that you should buy the latest model and that you are very certain that it has good feature so that you won't regret what you have bought. Because I once regret not buying a pentium 4 desktop and only bought pentium 2. Well that was a long time ago. My computer now is assembled and it is Quadcore. Well I love it very much..

I have never heard of the brand of laptop that you mention before. But then I haven't been shopping in stores for a laptop yet. I will check it out though thanks.

Hey,
Well since most people in the world use Windows XP which are installed on regular PC's, I suggest you go with an ordinary PC (laptop). It is much better, and is way easier for people to get used to than with MAC or Linux, DELL is a good laptop brand by the way too. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!
