Am I the only person who doesn't really understand the appeal of Lady Gaga?

Yes, I understand she is very different and unique. I'm honestly not even sure if she writes her own music. Some of her music is okay but her outfits are insane. Anyone who watched the VMA's last night saw that. The girl wore more fabric on her face than her body. I think she's so popular because she's so excentric AND because Perez Hilton is like her number 1 supporter and he gets so many hits on his blog.
Can anyone explain her appeal to me?

I know very little about this chick, I just basically know her name, and NO, SHE IS NOT HIP HOP!! Please, no one else get that twisted! U didn't say it, but a comment said something about it being played on a Hip Hop station, they should say overly commercial pop! Hip Hop is Hip hop, not this commercial mess these corporations are mixing it with! Nas-Hip Hop, Old School LL Cool J-Hip Hop, Wu Tang Clan-Hip Hop, Lyrically Jay=Z is Hip Hop, but he's learned how to put a commercial twist on it to make it overall appealing, I like him but I don't! And MC Lyte and Queen Latifah of her day is pure Hip Hop.
Now, back to this Gaga person. I don't know any of her songs, I've probably heard one, but I couldn't tell you! I do know she's pretty, I doubt if she's a dude, the industry loves rumors; just like the track runner suppose to be a dude (REALLY, whatever) Now, maybe cause Perez Hilton is flamin Flame is why they say that about Lady Gaga, but I can careless, aint like I'll ever meet her anyway to find out! Come on, this aint Boy George, I'm sure she would have admitted it by now, and the voice is strictly feminine, not strained like a Trans' would be, DUH!!
Anyway, the appeal, I don't know, look at Souldja boy, what's that about?

Ok Jeneias, way to shut me up, now I feel bad cause I was looking at Lady Gaga on the awards and actually watched a video The track runner, I didn't wanna look cause that wasn't even remotely cute! But, not to worry, let these crazy people do what they want; wait, so gaga did admit it! Ok, so the Boy George thing do stands, thanx for the info - guess I should check my facts before I throw out opinions, huh?
Well, my opinion stands on soldier boy, I mean that fact stands on Soldier Boy...and these whack radio stations DUDES? THESE JOKERS NEED TO QUIT!!!

Doubt if she's a dude? She admitted herself on her site. No rumors just facts. Oh and that track runner: proved to be a dude too. But I do agree with you about the Hip-Hop thing. Hop-hop stations aren't really "hip-hop stations" ya know, not like they used to be. Anyway, I guess they think GaGa is Hip-Hop because she got a rapper on her song. I dunno.

Your post made me smile, because you sound just like my brother who also doesn't understand what it is about Lady Gaga that draws her fans to her. My sister-in-law on the other side, likes her music, whether she writes it or not. I actually saw an interview with her once where she appeared quite "normal" and actually talked and answered questions (as opposed to last night at the VMA's on the red carpet). All I can say is that it's showbiz, and even more the music industry, where eccentricity is a big selling point.

I guess people like anyone who tries to set themselves apart. She has some catchy music, sure. But to me she's just another dance club singer who relies on horrid outfits to get plenty of coverage from the media. Club music has its place, but I couldn't listen to entire disc of it.

yes i think that she has caught the attention of many people because of uniqueness like what madonna was on the prime of her career. i would not say that her songs are my favorite but it is catchy and nice also though still i would not buy her CD. if i get to hear it playing somewhere it is alright i would listen to it but not the song i would try to search out on the net for her music video to watch and listen to.

I do imagine the weird outfits get her attention but there has to be more than that. I don't really care for her music but there are some, I'm sure that do. I mean, musicians have been dressing up and all forever. Think about Ozzie...Kiss...Alice Cooper....etc etc. They have to have talent or they won't go anywhere.

I don't see the appeal at all either. I have never cared for her songs, and to be honest the first time I saw a picture of her I went "Eww! No way! Whats with that outfit!" Haha! And her name...why would you call yourself that? But, some people like her and I understand that everyone has their own taste of music...and clothing. I see she has talent, but its just not to my particular taste. And Perez...no thank you. I will never visit his blog site...it drove me crazy when my friends were on it every ten seconds...but then again I hate to gossip. Drives me insane...
Thank you for the discussion!!!

I dont either, her music sounds just like everyone else in the same genre and shes very overated. I prefer Lilly Allen as she is quite talented, excellent live and has a cool personality

Hi BStuff, I'm worse than you, I dont even know who she is. I bet she does not know who I am too. So that's fair and square.
I dont care much about music or outfit or whatever she can offer. I am more concerned with making and saving money.
Let me know if she offers to turn you into a millionaire, then I will do my best to get her attention.

I think you are not alone in thinking that Lady Gaga is quite.. Well.. GAGA. She has alright music but her music videos, interviews, and outfits are totally out there. I think that people like her because everyone else does, since she's a trend. Also, her music is produced by Convict Music, which produces a lot of good and catchy songs.

Me too, I can't understand what she's trying to relay to people. I only know her song oh well just one line, the poker face...because it's the only song that's repeated over and over and I don't like it now.
I think she's artistic but it's really overboard. Now she's weird. Even little children ask, what's she wearing?
If she gets the chance to walk around here with her get up, she's more of a laughing stock. Well, if she would not dress like what she's wearing, she will not be popular is she relies only with her voice and songs.

She doesn't really appeal all that much too me I really don't think any of her music is really all that good so it doesn't really matter to me if she doesn't write her own music. She dresses pretty originally though. Maybe I'm just a fan of really different styles of music then Lady GaGa's.

I think if you look back through the music culture you will see the weird gets press. Weird people attract too just because they are different. There are and were a lot of artists with different tastes that have a huge following.
I personally like her music. I have not heard all her songs but she is coming out more and more.

My new nickname for her is Man Gaga - now with the new pictures out of her and her man parts. Or maybe I should say his man parts? I think she has both female and male parts. Anyways, I do like some of her songs but her look freaks me out a bit. Some of these artists are just crazy when it comes to look, dress, etc. A definite turn off for me. I like them normal. haha

her songs have catchy tunes. and her singing voice is not that bad at all. some people just can't help but stomp their feet or move/dance whenever they hear her songs playing.
i saw her at the vmas last night and i was laughing my head off when i saw that thing around her face. she's a weirdo.
