If you bought a defective product, will you return it?

Suppose there is a defect in the product that you have bought and you noticed it only after coming home, will you return it? Right from small stuff like coconut, provision to TV and Fridge you may find some defect. I will go to the shop and ask for it whether I get a good product back or not. At least let the shop keeper know about it and let me have a satisfaction of bringing it to his notice. What will be your course of action?

I of course would return the product. If I paid for it, I want it to be without defect and in working order. I have no problem returning a product if I don't notice the defect until I got home, sometimes you won't notice till you get home and have it out and whatnot.

The only problem is that, the shop keeper can say that, when he gave the product, it was in good condition.

But if the store has a return policy and it's within that time period they have to honor their products otherwise they won't get repeat business.

Yes. Defenitely i will return because if the manufacturing defect is there, the shop keeper must exchange it for a perfect one otherwise i will go to a consumer court

It depends upon the product I purchased. If it's food and I only noticed the defect at home then I might not be able to return it even if intend to. Because it will cost me money for transportation just to go back to the grocery store. If something that is not consumable, like electronics and stuff, I will definitely go back and have it replaced or just return it. If I'm not mistaken our country has this rule wherein you can only return or have a product replaced within 7 days.

If I buy a defective product I always return it. There is no reason a product should be sold damaged. If it is you should be able to return it for a full refund. I won't go to local mom and pop store if they don't have a return policy. Not to say no one can be trusted, BUT if a store can sell defective products and not take them back then they just made money.

This is how we must react. Why should we be cheated by defective product?

Yes, I will definitely return any products that are damaged and don't work. We work hard for our money and shouldn't waste it on bad merchandise. I usually try to exchange it for a new item. If I look at the item and it just doesn't look well made, then I will try to get my money back.

I most certainly return any faulty product I have purchased that cost me more than £1 (any less than this is, in my opinion, not worth the hassle). If I spent my hard-earned cash on a particular item, the least I expect is for it to be in fully-functioning condition. Whenever I buy something, I expect it to live up to its retailing promise in terms of its condition. Plus, I feel it is important to notify stores of any faulty products they have sold me to remind them that, as a customer, I will not tolerate being ripped off or sold anything that is broken before I've even had a chance to remove it from its packaging.

Your thumbs up avatar itself is showing your confidence in you. What you said is perfectly correct. Small value items can be ignored but not costly ones.

I sure will!!! When I order something, I pay for quality. If I don't get the quality I paid for, I don't want to lose money, so I will either return the product for a better one, or if the product line itsself is defective, I will return the product, and get my money back.

I would definitely return the product. I am spending my hard earned money on the product and I feel that I have the right to a properly functioning product that it free of defects. I realize that it is very easy for the defects to go through the inspection line, so that is one reason that I feel that I have the right to return defective products. I used to work retail, and we had gotten a batch of inexpensive...shoot CHEAP watches from the warehouse. We had a special on them, selling them for $3.00 each. I had more returns on the watches than you could believe. My favorite is a young man who had saved diligently for a new watch. He came in and bought the watch from me and left proudly sporting his new watch. A couple of days later he came in carrying a small box. Inside was the watch. He looked at me with deep sadness in his eyes and explained that he had taken the watch off and set it on his bedside table and the next morning when he woke up and reached for the watch it literally exploded. I looked at it, and it had! The crystal was separate from the body of the watch, the back was off and the computer chip was hanging by one little wire, the battery holder was in the box, separate from the watch. It was obvious that the watch had exploded. Plus I had the same complaint from other people. Plus, one night when I was working I had one of the watches on the counter and it exploded in front of my awe struck eyes! So, I went through the display case and found a watch that was a little more than the company's cost on the exploding watches and exchanged the watches. The young man was soooo pleased! He got a much better watch for an exchange. From then on, anyone who was thinking about buying the "exploding" watches were directed away from them by me. Now that is a defect for you. We ended up shipping all those watches back to the warehouse.

You have done a wonderful thing by helping people exchange defective ones. Some people, who are poor, will buy things with great difficulty. If it is defective, how will they feel? It is their very hard earned money and they have cut short their other expenses and bought this item. They will be highly satisfied if the article is exchanged.

Usually I will return the product but sometimes I wont. If its something that I bought from my local supermarket then I would be kind of embarrassed returning it but other then that I probably wouldnt have a problem with returning something. I have had to return things a lot. I remember opening up a brand new can of dog food that was bad and I saved it until I went back a few days later and showed them there was something wrong with it and got my money back. It was only like 54 cents lol but still it was my money that I spent on a defective product.

I appreciate your words Shaggin, yes even if it is 5 cents, it is your money and you believed that the shop will give you good stuff and the belief went wrong.

I will definitely return the defective product even if it is only cheap or a small thing. For example, when I buy clothes and there is some defect, I will exchange it for a no-defect top the following day. This is because I would not want the money I spent on it go to waste. Also, if I don't exchange it, I don't think I will wear the defective top at all. If the defective product is the last piece, I would just ask for a refund.

Then only the shop keeper also will be careful in getting good things and checking it before selling.

Now depending on what the product is, absolutely I would return it and request a refund or a product with no defect on it, after all, if Im paying for the price of it I expect it to be in good condition. One day, the day Id like the call, the crappiest day ever commercial style, my husband and I went with our son to purchase a brand new DVD player, one cought our eye and we liked what we say, we played the dvd´s that were being offered there and it was on top condition, we asked if it was a multizone type of dvd player the salesman said it was... that is the last time we take a salesman´s word for it. We got the product, packaged it, went home, baby tired wanting to go to sleep, and just when we were about to play one of his dvd movies in the meantime to help him be entertained while falling asleep, OOOOOPS.. its only a zone 1 dvd player... we felt outraged and evenb tgough we were extremely tired... since we were hunting for a decent product all day long, we went right back! Before that I left my son at my mother´s so he wouldnt have to placed at such an ordeal and we went inmediately back to that store. Salesman was gone, and not to our surprise, he had quit that same day... and I wooooonder why. We got another dvd player that we had tested with our dvd´s instead of the ones offering at the store to avoid more problems.. and just when I thought that it was solved... IT WAS WORSE! That replacement dvd that we had for that one, was after 4 days, not working, realizing that there was a defect, just to make the story short, we had to change dvd players 4 times!

I can make out how much frustrated you would have been. But you did not leave it like that. You saw to it that you got a good product. This is inspiring. Sorry for the delay in commenting. My mozilla firefox gave me problem.

i would straight away take the product with me to the shop keeper and return it back to him. He would almost ask me the bill, which i would gladly show him. If i can get a replacement, that would be the best thing ever.

definitely yes,i think almost all stores have warranty to their products that means if it is not working, damaged or defective that means you can ask for replacement.

Some stores will say some excuses and try to put the blame on us. Some stores, however, are genuine and replace the defective product.

I will definely bring it back to where I bought it knowing that the store owner will replace it whether he like it or not. It is mandated by law.

Hello Buchi, Nice discussion! For me, I am so particular in buying stuff. I will sure go to report the defect! If it happens to me, I will go back to the place where I bought the thing and get the thing exchange to a new and in perfect condition. If I could not go again on the same day, I will then call them to inform them first. No one want to pay and get the defect in the item they buy!
