Do you prefer to read in bright light, or lower light?

I like reading in lower light, it helps me imagine the text more.

I prefer later in the night with a little bit of light to read with. There's not as much distractions for me when it's nighttime. I don't mind reading in the daytime either I just prefer to read at night because I read that when you take in information before you go to bed your brain processes it better. I'm not sure if that's a fact or not though but it seems like it could have some truth to it.

Some studies show that more sleep increases your memory by a substantial amount. But really, it just makes you feel better.

Thanks for the added information. I will try to read more before I sleep because of this. I hope that it will improve me.

I prefer to read in lower light because I relax more. Reading in bright light tends to make my eyes strain more anyway.

Yes, especially when the pages of the book is crisp white. The glare is reflecting thus straining the eyes. I also prefer the lower light.

It seems that all of us here prefer the soft light in contrast to that of bright light. Reading with an adequate light is good and that doesn't mean too much, right? What matters is that we are not reading in dark which forces our eyes to absorb more even there is nothing more.

I like reading in moderate light. For poor eyesight, I can no more afford reading too much, esp. in lower light. I quit reading while sleeping, which is very bad reading habit. Reading under bright sunlight is banned. Reading is fun, and reading can last only with good eyesight.

I love to read and sometimes I do not mind to read in lower light and bright light too because when I read I only focus on what I read and usually my mother gets angry with me because she says reading in lower light will affect my eyes.

I prefer to read in bright light. It has been taught by my father in my childhood that dimlight damages your eyes very quickly so I have made it a practice to read in bright light always.

I like low light better because of the glare. If the room is too brightly lit, I can get a headach so I prefer lower lights when reading. I like to read in bed before I go to sleep so my lamp by the bedside gives off the perfect amount of light for reading.

I enjoy reading in lower light. It's easier on my eyes! I typically read in bed and the lamp by my bed is actually rather bright. So sometimes I turn on the ceiling light since it's not quite as bright. When I'm laying in bed and it's dark a really bright light can just be too much for your eyes! The light of course has to be low but bright enough for me to be able to easily read the words. Now I'm just being picky, haha.
