Boy I got such a buzz on Sunday

My eldest son is 8 years old and has just gone back to start his 3rd season of rugby but this season he starts contact. I was so worried that he would be scared about getting down low to tackle for the fear of getting a studded boot in his face or being tackled by someone, going down like a sack of spuds and hurting himself. He is the smallest one there of his age, smallest in height and smallest in size but boy, did he get stuck in. After training the coach came up to me and told me how well my son had done and that he seriously has the making of a really good rugby player. I felt my chest puff out so far it almost hurt!! I was so proud of him and told him so all the way home, I couldn't help it!! I really felt proud of myself too that the effort of keeping his enthusiasm up and getting him there on time every sunday morning was well worth it! Has anyone made you feel like this lately?

My three boys were all athletic as was their father. He was a great at cricket, football and swimming and played competitively. I always got a great kick out of seeing my sons;'splay. My eldest boy was excellent at tennis but the scholarship for college abroad was given to his cousin who my son had never lost a match against. It was a 'friends' situation as the selector and my BIL were friends. This really grieved my boy. They all played soccer and represented their schools in athletics, volleyball etc. I used to enjoy seeing them play Now my daughtr did not shine at Sports at all and the school really despaired of her until they found out that she could do high jump! She was the kid who would run a race and stop half way through to check that her shoes were tied and her hair was neat aND THEN SHE WOULD START RUNNING AGAIN. It was so funny Many congratulations to your son. He sounds amazing and stick out your chest as far as it will go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi cynthiann Aww that was a real shame for your son huh? I really hope that my son can make a career out of it. My brother was the same but he joined the army instead and didn't want to further his education. Now he is an officer and had to go back to the classroom to get higher grades to go with his job. If my son is as successful as my brother then I will be more than happy. Thanks

You have a budding little rugby player on your hands there! And you have every right to be proud of him, when I was young I had to rely on just my mum being there for me and giving me encouragement and praise, I thrived on it, I had a father sure, but he was never interested in me but that's a different story. I hated rugby at school and it can be a very rough game as you know, in fact I wasn't sporty at all. I am sure you treated him too and his brothers. It makes life special doesn't it when you can enjoy and revel in the achievements of your children. I was made to feel happy and praised as you know at my recent art course when I drew a picture of a boat, hey it wasn't Picasso but for my first attempt at drawing anything since I left school which is like 22 years ago, I was chuffed as mintballs! Which made me feel good. I need to be praised, I need to feel wanted and this made my day. WTG Champ! Your buzz is rubbing off on me too now ;0)

Hi ya wolfie34 I think we all need to be praised so we can feel good about ourselves! I had no one to tell when we got home so I rang my mum and spoke to her secretary, otherwise known as the answering machine!! I am glad that my discussion has revamped your buzz and I look forward to hearing how you get on, on Thursday! Take care my friend X

Hi Humbug, good for your son though I'd be petrified of all those bigger boys knocking him over. I was pretty proud of mine yesterday too as it was the first day back for lestsons after the long break and none of them were looking foward to it as much this year. But when I went to collect him in the afternoon I couldn't drag him away as he was too engrossed in a one to one footy game with the dishy headmaster, then announced he'd had a brilliant day so I was pretty proud that he's set to it with the usual enthusiasm after all.
