Guys what do you think of the 40 overs format for the ODIs? Yesterday's Compaq Cup Final with a full house as well as the other matches in the tournament just shows there is no diminishing in interest in the current 50 over game. So why shorten it? It seems in England there is a general lack of interest in this format which I believe is possibly because of the lack lustre performance of their National Cricket Team in recent times in this version of the game. I do believe that this will improve as soon as England performs better in the International Arena. I would sincerely like to know your views and comments on this.

T-20 cricket has made cricket more interesting while other formats like the 50-50 or test cricket are vanishing. The only reason for that according to me is time saving matches in this very busy world.Another main reason is the interesting and breath taking T20 matches with great endings.

Hello friend. I am also of the view that ODI's shouldn't be shortened by just 10 overs, just to compensate for the decreasing interests of people in them. Rather what ICC should do, is that it should organize more and more tournaments between good countries so that charm in such format increases. Also, I don't think there is much difference between 50 overs and 40 overs. I don't agree with your reason about why England is organizing 40-40 matches, because its not just for the current time. These 40-40 overs matches were being held there from very long times and it has no relation with ongoing condition of England. ICC can also change some of the rules in 50 overs match to make it more interesting rather than shortening it. One rule may be employing a referral system in ODIs as well. Happy MyLotting.
