Where does your monthly salary goes?

Are you spending it with your parents/siblings? or to your wife/children? Before I got married, biggest portion of my salary went directly to my parents'expenses, the rest for my personal expenses. Now that I'm married, I still see to it that I save some for them. Good thing that my husband doesn't mind. How bout yours?

The biggest portion of our monthly salaries goes to the mortgage company (which includes our taxes). Then on utilities/insurances,food,travel/entertainment,savings and misc. Lately we have tried to start putting more money aside for savings so in the near future its place in the lineup might change (I hope). Other than gifts, we do not spend much on parents, siblings, children, grandkids or ourselves.

Mortgaging of house rarely happens here in our country and I guess, its in our culture that we should support our parents even after we got married

Interesting concept. I do not know anything about other cultures and probably don't know enough about my own culture but I think for the most part it is our culture to raise our kids to be self-sufficient. I am sure most of us help out our parents or other family members in time of need but mostly we are taught to take care of ourselves and our kids until the kids are of age to start this process all over again with their own kids....and so on and so on.

Most of our money goes to the house whether it be mortgage or utilities, then of coarse the taxes, up keep, owners insurance, yada yada. The rest goes to paying off our medical bills and for the things we need like clothes and mostly food. We do not splurge much as we like to put some money away for the future.

I envy those who can save some money monthly. I'm having a hard time practicing it.

As do I but I insist on putting something away even if it is a few cents each day. What I do is even out the change in my checking account by putting that $.20 or whatever into my savings account each day. It isn't much and at the end of the month I am lucky if I get $10 away but it is better then nothing at this point.

My husband and I support eachother. We are the only ones living here. He has children, and they are all grown up. We have decided that they are old enough to fend for themselves, and since we are both making less money than they are, we need to take care of ourselves first.

May I ask why you give money to your parents and siblings? Do they not support themselves?
