No one puts Baby in the corner....

I just read the tag line when I signed on this afternoon to my Comcast that Patrick has lost his battle and passed away. I have not read all of the details as of yet, but I am mourning the man who brought me so much through his movies. I was in highschool when I saw Dirty Dancing and it was a movie that brought me a great deal of wisdom about being true to myself. I will always remember the line "No one ever puts Baby in the corner", because to me it meant that we never had to shut ourselves down simply to please everyone else's expectations of us. We could be free to reveal who we were as a person and we didn't have to be ashamed of that. Patrick did so many movies such as that, and I will always adore Too Wong Foo, because he sent the same message in that movie. We must be true to who we are. We must not live a lie, and we must not give up the truth. What are your favorite movies, lines, or messages? What did you learn from Patrick's movies? Namaste-Anora

Oh heck, you said it way better than I could. I really only saw two of his movies (will have to look up Too Wong Foo), Dirty Dancing and Ghost. I got pretty much the same message from Dirty Dancing that you did. Ghost was more about love and about doing what it takes to protect your loved ones. With a few funny moments thrown in for good measure...

Dawn- I loved Ghost, and for just that reason-what love truly means. And the humor wasn't bad too lol. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Namaste-Anora

hey Anora, Wel i do not remember any lines/messages from Swayze's movies.. But i did like him a lot as an actor.. Was really shocked to see the news that he passed away.. Just a day back, i was watching his series- 'The Beast' and was thinking, 'Wow, he looks nothing like a cancer-stricken person'.. RIP Patrick Swayze!!

Nisha- I was so happy to see The Beast during the middle of his struggle. I think that the media did horrible things, and yet he proved himself above it all once again with that series. He will definitely be missed. Thank you again for your kind response. Namaste-Anora

Hallejulliah sweet Anora! I could never in a million years have said it better! Must not give up the truth! Well said. I keep going back to To Wong Foo. I was so impressed with these men make a womans movie. It was a joke within a womans flick. It was great! One of my all time favorites. It took (my favorite word) ba$$s and I would love to be in the corner listening to these during make-up and all the crap they must of gone through. He was great! And then there was Ghost. Me, the romantic, loved every moment of this. What did they teach me? That the man had nerve to do a good bit of entertaining no matter what anyone thought! And thank the good Lord and Gods and Godesses he did too! My hats off to ya Patrick. You will be missed!

Yes, i was just watching Dirty Dancing again tonight. His films are always enjoyed. I never tire of seeing them. We all have to leave at some point for whatever reason. I feel now for his family. I hope they do okay and don't hurt too badly. I think they knew it was coming long enough that it won't be too bad for them.

Patrick's movies were all very memorable to me. He was good! I especially remember Ghost and To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar. The first was a major tear jerker. I am such a romantic that I was right there! And Too Wong Foo--Oh! My Gosh! What a woman's movie huh? With the most macho of men at that time. Oh Ya! And, I saw the last interview with Patrick and his wife given by Barbara Wah Wah. His wife was a dear too. Strong woman. He was strong through it all. He could sure pick a movie to be in. I would love to be a mouse in the corner with Wesley, Pat and whats his name were making To Wong Foo. Fun stuff. And as far as the message and what I learned. I learned just how much of the feminine is really in all men. ~Mitakuye Oyasin

Mitakuye- I think I've cried in many of his movies. Oh, wouldn't have been fun to see what they spoke about during their breaks on that film? Thank you for making your way to our board through others. I've missed your responses. Namaste-Anora

I can't believe it. I know they had said that he was going down hill and I hadn't been online to read the news or anything. He was the one that gave me and many other girls a different idea of what romance could be like. That it didn't have to be all roses and movies and dinners. The "Dirty" part of the dancing in the movies is what changed the face of a lot of dancing in this country and opened the door to a lot of the ways we dance today. The one besides Dirty dancing I remember him in is "Ghost" atleast I think that's the title the one where he played with whoopie and he uses her to help his girlfriend find his killer. I also think dirty dancing showed a side that the goody tooshoo girl of a bunch just might be the worst kind there is to trust.

Crys- Thank you so much for sharing. It's funny because my mom who grew up in the 60's recalls "dirty dancing" and how kids did it in their basements. So, it's been here a long time. Though, even she questioned the title of the movie when I was going to see it. Namaste-Anora

Hi adora_eldorath, Patrick Swayze is always very nice to watch in any movie of his. North and South is my very favourite of his I would watch this series over and over it´s very well made I don´t know if it ever had any kind of award or any credits I would be very surprised if it did not. Living outside of America I have no idea what the impact has been with this Series but in Spain they have repeated it a couple of times and all mixed up but then we are used to that here lol. North and South has many great actors but Patrick Swayze and the other actor who played a role in the opposite side of the war is what makes me remember Patrick Swayze the most of all. Never fails to move me. Dirty Dancing and Ghost are my favourites of Patrick Swayze too these are all memories that will live on for me for a long time to come. I prefer to remember Patrick like this.

Loving- Thank you so much for your response. I think many people have forgotten about The North and The South. I remember watching it years ago and though it was long, he was still a wonderful actor. Thank you again for your kind response and memory of Patrick. Namaste-Anora

Hi anora, It´s a pleasure. Patrick Swayze represents to me what a Gentleman should be like and he had such a kind face too and those beaming eyes. Patrick Swayze was elegance itself and graceful. I was nuts about him in North and South not just because of the Uniform. Patrick Swayze had so much more to give to this world.

That is probably one of the most memorable moments and lines of any movie. He portrayed the same message I believe in Road House too. He was such a fabulous actor and such a wonderful person. I feel so upset still that we lost such a wonderful person at such a young age. Why can't we with all of our technology find a cure for cancer?

Carol- I adored Road House too. I think because he took care of business! You would think with all our wonderful technology we'd find that cure for cancer. We've lost too many wonderful friends and family to it. Thank you again for your kind response. Namaste-Anora

I was so saddened to hear of Patrick Swayze’s passing; 57 is way too young! I have a copy of the movie Dirty Dancing. It is on a VHS video which I bought when I travelled through London. I have always loved that movie and at the time related a great deal to Baby’s awkwardness at the beginning of the film and the movie’s message is very dear to me; you can do anything as long as you are true to your authentic self! I enjoyed ‘To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar’ and I could still watch Ghost again for the hundredth time! R.I.P. Patrick Swayze

Paula- Thank you so much for your heart felt response. I knew he was young but I could not recall the actual age. And what a special memory you have of Dirty Dancing. I have watched some of his movies so much I think my VHS tapes are wearing out! Though, my husband bought me Dirty Dancing for our anniversary on DVD so I've got a good copy too! Namaste-Anora

He was a great actor and by all accounts, a very nice man. I am sorry to see him go. I loved To Wong Fu! even dressed as a lady he managed to look good. I first remember him from The Outsiders and of course Dirty Dancing and Ghost. He was in a lot of great films and was even great in a lot of not-so-great films. He will be missed, my heart goes out to his family, friends and everyone who loved him.
