Do You think it's safe to do so?
There's a station that was open after midnight as I was passing on my way home tonight, and my low fuel light had blipped on going up a hill towards the home of a Girl I work with that I was giving a lift to earlier,so decided to stop in for a fill up..What I assume were friends of the Attendant had a couple of cars parked on the forecourt, one of them with the doors open demonstrating how much Bass he could get out of his sound system (I was impressed!....) but a bit less so to realise that one of them was smoking by the doorway of the shop, and another one was lighting up as I was going in to pay! As the Attendant was hanging out with them,I didn't say anything, but I didn't hang around when leaving!...Should I have said something? Ever seen this happen where you fill up?

I don't smoke in the first place. My sister lives in a flat above a petrol station so I go there regularly, I've seen people near the forecourt smoking, but I haven't yet seen anyone on the forecourt properly smoking since they put a no smoking sign up at it. However, before the sign was there I do remember people smoking right next to the petrol pumps! I can't believe the stupidity of some people really.
The attendant at that petrol station should really have told those people not to smoke there as it's dangerous.

I don't smoke either..I was reading a related discussion on another forum about a Guy pumping petrol and realising there was a Woman in the passenger seat of another car nearby blithely puffing away with the window open..He went over to point out the risk, and was met with "What?!" Another Guy on the same forum told the story that He'd been checking jerry cans in his garage for any of them having fuel in them, and realised part way through doing so that he'd a lit ciggie in his mouth!

Nothing is impossible at the petrol station. So it is better to follow all precautions, including no smoking, turning off the mobile phone, etc. There are signs of caution everywhere at the petrol station. It is not only self safety, but also social responsibility.

What You say is all true..but what should you do about those who ignore or don't comprehend the risks they take? Is it our place to get involved?

i guess its not recommended though a lot still use to do that. they dont care at all. people looks so un-educated to know whats in patrol or gas station. even if they are too far and theres a lot of safety precaution still you must not. if so then they can go somewhere else to smoke.

Don't they put enough BIG RED WARNING NOTICES around forecourts, and festoon the place with Fire extinguishers and sand buckets to give the impression that it's a dangerous thing to do?
