Do you use green household cleaners in your home?

With so many chemicals and the ever increasing cost of everyday cleaners, we have decided to make our own. I will search the web for all types of green cleaning aids. If you have any recipes to recommend, that will kick me off, I would be most happy to hear them. If you're using the expensive, highly advertised brand names, why don't you join me. We will be doing our bit for the environment, as well as saving money! Could you ask for anything more?

Hey tigeraunt, I hope I get heaps of responses to this discussion. As you can see from the first two responses we can help the environment, and save. But of course the individual has to be pleased with the results. I'm definitely going to give them a go, and I hope you do too. Thanks for the response. Mike.

For most cleaning jobs, I use a solution of 2 parts water to 1 part white vinegar with a few drops of tea tree oil. It works for everything from cleaning countertops and stovetops to dusting wood furniture and freshening up fabrics. Vinegar kills germs and mold naturally, and as it dries the smell dissipates. Tea tree oil is also a great disinfectant.
For cleaning windows, just use a spray bottle filled with straight vinegar.
For scrubbing jobs, such as cleaning the bathtub or sink, use plain old baking soda instead of bleach-ridden scouring powders like Comet.
Hope these tips help!

Hey thyst, what a great start to kick off the responses to this discussion. Other myLotters only have to jot down your response to start cleaning green, and saving money. I have always believed that cleaning detergents are some of the most overpriced products on the market, and this discussion can be myLot's way of helping all mambers to save money, while doing the environment a favour at the same time. Thanks for your valued contribution.
