At what age did you stop believing in Santa Claus?

I guess it's early to ask something related to Christmas, but I'd like to know when you stopped believing in Santa Claus and how did that came about. As for me, I learned that the "Santa Claus" who's giving me gifts every year were my parents when I was 11 years old. My sister told me who really was putting the gifts under the tree because she found them sneaking the gifts in.
How about you? Share your story.

I believed in Santa Claus until the age of seven. It was when I entered into an elementary school which is a catholic school. That's the time when I heard stories that Santa Claus does not exist as shown on television or movies. It is true that Santa Claus is a saint, short for St. Nicholas. Before I learned that Santa Claus does not visit every home to leave a Christmas gifts for kids under the Christmas trees, I always believed that Santa Claus gave me Christmas presents every year. Well, not literally. It was told to me by one of my elementary teachers that Santa Claus gives gifts to kids through our parents.

Wow, you were pretty young when you learned the real identity of Santa Claus. Good thing my teachers didn't spoil the fun for me then. Haha!

I was 11 too when I discovered that it was my grand dad who's Santa, my older brother and I hid under the couch and waited for Santa all night long so that we can get more toys. We were very disappointed when it was our grand dad! Well, I still believe that St. Nicholas existed!

"WHAT" There is no Santa Claus. Who told you that. Just kidding. I am not sure what age I was when I found about it but I just had this very discussion with my 11 and 12 year old son a few weeks ago. We went on a walk around the block and I told them. We started the conversation because some people at there school were telling them that there was not a Santa Claus and I think they were getting cofues and one of them I think argued the fact. Well I stuck out my hand and introduced myself as Santa Claus and my oldest son just stood there for a minute and had this weird look on his face. Of course he then said "oh I knew it" but I dont think he did or wanted to believe it was true from his friends. I then told him and his brother about the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny. They then wanted to know how all those eggs got put in our yard then. Well a good friend comes to the house and hides them while we are at church. They are not supposed to tell my daughter who is only 8 because we still want her to believe in those things.

I never really believe in a Santa Claus that comes inside the chimney during Christmas. For one, we don't have a chimney LOL and I live in a tropical place where Christmas is always green and bright, with all the glitters still minus the snow. Oh yes we sing Christmas songs with Santa Claus lyrics in it but we knew then that Santa Claus is just a symbol of Christmas too as what my parents explained.
But we were told that there are Santa Clauses in the cold temperate countries far beyond our reach and the Santa clauses in tropical countries are the parents or who ever are giving out presents.

I honestly don't remember - either that, or I just didn't care. It's just that I always seem to have known that it were my parents who were giving us gifts, and Santa Claus is just a little something extra. Didn't spoil my childhood though; I still love the holidays.

hi moonchild117,
i was 10 years old then (too old for a child to realize this one),when i discovered that my parents are the santa claus. i saw my mom and dad so busy secretly keeping some stuff. the next morning i saw the same stuff beside our socks with our notes to santa. then i jokingly told my parents that i already know who is santa claus. we all laugh and that's the last christmas that i remember receiving gift from santa mama and papa.
oh how missed those days! well, now it's my turn to do my share for my two kids.
advance merry christmas!

i guess i believed in santa til i was 9 or 10 but i never had an older sibling to disuade me of my beliefs (i am an only child). my youngest daughter believed in santa til she was around 11 as well and i had to make sure her older sister didnt tell her there was no santa. i wanted her to be a kid as long as possible.

That's probably what I'll do to my daughter as well... let her believe in Santa for a long time. Well, probably until she reaches 12. LOL!

Can't really remember, guess I was about 7 or so ........with an older brother and sister myths tend to get shattered earlier. Sure wish he did exist though as this year things are going to be very tight and this "Santa" is going to struggle to pull it off for kids and grandkids!

My parents were cruel and never let me believe in Santa Claus. Yup, they told me from Day 1 that THEY gave me my presents and if I was bad they just wouldn't give 'em to me. That means no letters to Santa, no milk and cookies and no believing in reindeer!
And in case you were wondering, yes, I was that child in school who told everyone that Santa wasn't real. Other parents hated me. :P

Wow, that's the first time I heard that kind of story. Normally parents would like their kids to believe in Santa for as long as they want. Well, the parents I know, I guess.

I'm not quite sure of my age at the time, maybe about 10. I was still awake when my mum brought my red santa sack in with presents in. I pretended to be asleep and when she went I looked at my pressies. I had got an inkling by then anyway!!

I still believe in Santa Claus and got a couple of letters on penpal sites from him last year!
Seriously I was raised to believe that santa was not actually a single person but was the spirit inside everyone that made them reach into their pockets and want to give to those around them. Which means I believe in Santa Claus all year round.

My parents never really gave me a story that persuaded me to believe in Santa Claus. All they ever told me and what I gathered was that the two major presents I would get were from both "Mommy and Daddy" and "Santa Claus" respectively. It was my little mind with a HUGE imagination that assumed that Santa was real. No one gave me proof that he wasn't. Of course I didn't go looking for any either. Every Christmas I would run as fast as I could to bed and force myself to sleep because I knew that that was the rules if Santa was going to come, and I didn't want to make him upset.
I think it was when I was 11 or so that my mum stopped trying to convince me with excitement and built-up anticipation that he was real. She would say sarcastic comments when we would walk through a store if I wanted something. "Maybe Santa will get it for you this year for Christmas."
It didn't hit me that Santa wasn't real, rather I slowly stopped believing, and looked at him more like a feeling.
Sometimes I try to go back though. To when Santa was real, waiting for me to fall asleep. :)

I don't remember for certain, but I do remember that when I was about 8 ( I think) I went to a Christmas party that had a Santa. I recognized from Santa's voice that it was my Dad. So I told all the other kids that Santa was my Dad. The adults were not too appreciative.

When i was at age of 8 i stopped believenig that there is actually any santa in real, and that broke my heart really very badly.Actually i would have believed on him even til now if i would not know that on the very christmas day every year my dad use to gift me by hiding away from me going outside the house and then knocking the door and giving me gifts and trying to kiss me and all i use to get scared but then one day i came to know that it is my dad as i saw his shirt through the robe he was hiding behind :( and that broke my belief i stopped taking gifts from this so called santa from that time.

What did you say moonchild?...There is no what? That can't be..No santa claus..I was just kidding...Im not sure what age it was but I believe it right around the age of 10. I had caught my mom putting a doll under the tree that wasn't wrapped and ask what she was doing. It was so funny to think back to look on my mom's face..You have a nice day...

My crushing blow tothe Santa Claus myth came when I was five. i was in kindergarten. I made a little boy mad about a toy and he retaliated. He told me there was no Santa Claus. I was indeed devastated.
