Inconsiderate Landlord

Yesterday is one of the most unforgettable day of my life. I was in a day off and I never expected that the day I was supposed to be resting gave me more stress and duties. Anyway here's the story. I was at home since there is no work. At 11am the power went off and then after 10 minutes the water was cut. I was so surprised because yesterday is only the 15th of the month (Sept. 2009.) I sent text to my husband telling that our electricity and water was cut due to non-payment. His work starts at 10pm to 7am and after that he attended a work seminar from 8am to 12 noon so he was really tired and exhausted. At 1pm we met at McDonalds. We have no more money except for the remaining budget we have at home. I won't discuss the exact figures but in the unit that we are renting we are always required to pay all in one. As in one time payment for everything. We pay monthly rent for a 2 bedroom unit. We pay monthly cable, electricity, water and water excess. We are always giving the full payment every 20th of the month because that is when we get our salary. We earned 80% and still lack 20% of the total payment so we decided to ask consideration from the employees that we are going to do everything to pay the remaining balance of 20% by tomorrow 16th. But they never give us consideration. We ask to write a letter of proof that we can really produce money tomorrow but still they refused to even just bring back the electric and water. My husband told the lady that we have our baby suffering from hot weather who can't sleep and haven't taken a bath yet but still their heart is hard as stone. They never break their rules. They told us that they have given the bill earlier than expected. But the thing is the due date is Sept. 11 and we are always given an extra 1 week of extension to pay without any reconnection fee. So we were surprised to have our electric and water disconnected 4 days after the due date. They never informed us about the new rule. They just did it without informing the tenants. So I and my husband contacted all the people who could possibly lend us additional money. God is still good because we were able to produce the amount and I even pawned my cellphone just to add to the 20% we need. After that we went back to the payment office and we saw 3 more tenants who were complaining why is there electric and water were cut knowing that they still have the grace period of one week. They told a lot of complaints and even asked to talk to the owner. Of course the employees refused. They just gave the number that we can contact for the owner. I was thinking that they will be the one to answer the phone and not the owner. When we were walking home, I and my husband decided to look for another house to rent. It is not fair knowing that we were renting from them for 2 years now. Our contract will end by October 3rd week and so we still have enough time to finalize everything. I hate being manipulated by other people. I know that we may have a little mistake by not paying earlier but we also have some other expenses in the house and we never expected the new rule that was never even told to all of us tenants. I know we are not that rich and the other complainant has even a car, see? That is how bad the management is. They charged all late payments additional 300 pesos for reconnection even if they cut electric and water every time you pay late. Anyway Karma according to my husband is digital. So one day I will no longer be surprised if they will lose many tenants because of them being so inconsiderate.

Hi. Yori88. This is so sad! They should have sent you all a letter stating that they was going to shut off your electricity and water. It is not fair, especially when you have a baby that has to be bathed. My lights were shut off too. My daughter was about, 6 to 7 days old and the man came and disconnected our power. It really made me mad! It was hot at this time. It was summer. He told me that there was nothing that he could do, he had to do his job. He had no remorse, but I could tell that it bothered him when I told him about it being hot in the trailer with our baby with us. It was really so sad.. I don't blame you for moving, this landlord seems like all they are doing is collecting rent money and not looking after their tenants. Well, let this landlord look after their own selves for now on.

well i know they will pay in time for their cold heartedness. i used to be a manager way back many years ago and the owner ended up throwing me out because i would not go put a pregnant girls stuff out on the curb i just couldnt do it. so i lost the job and had to stay with mom for a couple weeks and listen to her tell me every day how stupid i was but I knew God was watching i never regret it. it was kind of funny to watch that mean landlord tho trying to take her stuff down the stairs. he couldnt get anyone else to do it and was furious he had to. i would never own a rental. it would be to hard.

I am not surprised hearing this from you as this happens with most of tenants. This is normal schedule and you need not to worry about anything. Just do your routine work and they will be kind to you again. Ignore them once and then they will understand the facts. I would just sy..all the best and be happy and may things be fine..
