i prefer to use a regular napkin from tampons.tampons if stay longer hours will lead to toxic shock syndrome.it is one of the deadliest cause of death in women in some of the countries.i regularly changed my napkin every 3 hours since it is the best to change to prevent infection.how about yours.what do you use regularly during your periods?

Actually, I use both. I started using tampons when I was very young so that I could go swimming, I didn't want to sit on the pool side while everyone else was having fun. I have never had any problems with them. They stay in place, you can't lose them, there is no where for them to go! If the string would get tucked up inside or break (I have never heard of the string breaking but read it in a reply you got on here - you give the string a little tug to make sure it is secure before you use it) When you use them, you change them every 2-4 hours depending on your flow. All of the packages should have directions in them and it will tell that it will cause toxic shock syndrome if you leave them in for extended periods of time (12 hours/overnight) I know a lot of women that use tampons and I have never heard of anyone getting TSS for many years. There are symptoms to look out for if you read the instructions and it will tell what the symptoms are, you look for fever and a rash. When a lot of women in the 1970's were dying from TSS, there was a tampon that was made mostly of nylon instead of cotton and they determined that was most of the problem. If I have a heavy flow, I use both tampons and pads.I use pads when I go to sleep at night. I have never felt comfortable wearing pads, they feel awkward to me and I don't like the deodorant ones and how they smell and how they make me smell. YUCK! Just like a pad, the tampon is disposed of and whether you wear a pad or tampon, everything your body gets rid of goes with the tampon, and you can dispose of them the same way you do a pad.

I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure if you left a tampon in too long, it would probably smell pretty bad and you would remember if you have one in or not! You are right, though....as long as you're comfortable with what you have, you're doing good. I just wish no one had to deal with it every month, it's such a pain.

thank for sharing your ideas that says a lot in details.yes i know about if it stays it for long hours inside it that is the time that will lead to TSS.Sometimes women forgot things and unaware of if they left there or they remove it.strings will then add to uneasy feelings.however it doenst matter if which you or me and the other women used.whether to use the regular pads or tampons.the important is were safe and comfortable during those times.

i also wish that painful cramps is less during menstruation.all women had pre-menstrual syndrome first like mood swings, blotting, headaches and stomachache.others experiences loose bowel.

I use pads too. It's just what Im used to and what I grew up with. I feel more safe with pads. Not that Ive actually tried tampons but just the thought of having something plugging my body.. Id really rather not. My common sense tells me that sure, maybe the cotton would absorb it inside but we all know that there are semi-solids, where do those go.? My thinking process would tell me that those are stuck inside. Yikes. Ive also heard of news that a girl got her tampons stuck in there 'cause the string broke or something that she has to get it removed by an OB. Ive also heard of that syndrome you have mentioned. So, yeah, for me pads are more safe. They're just external so we can remove and change them anytime without the discomfort of having to pull it out from inside us.

My first time I have my menstruation their is no napkin and I opt to use folded cotton cloth. It is the most natural than napkin or tampoon. Now, that I am a complete adults, I used the napkin the cotton type not the nylon or with plastic covering it gives me itchiness. I just wonder what the cave women put during those times?

hehehe neelianoscet this so funny.why using folded clothes since napkin is affordable.but its true women in the past had nothing to use but they survive it.i guess they also use leaves to cover their external part.i agree that some other type of napkin can cause ithchiness.in some way it is more safe than tampons.

Ya, is true to use napkin make from cotton (but no use the cotton cloth) is not so itch and you feel more comfort, well i been using, as what u say plastic or nylon is so itch, but no choice, all napkin is make from that, but recently my friend just introduce me a new sanitary napkin that is make from cotton and have 7 layer with 'Anion' on it... sound funny hur... is true i just buy from my friend and try it myself, wow.. very comfortable and no more itch.. warm feeling.. my friend told me that most of the napkin is make from recycle paper (hur....) she told me this product have patented and in this world is the one and only. You can check out at internet about this company call winalite.

I like the pads myself, but I do use tampons on occasion like if I'm swimming or something during the summer. It would never fail that it would hit the time i'm on vacation. Now I'm on the nuva ring for the birth control and my periods usually run 2-3 days max and I can gauge when to put it in and when to take it out depending on what's going on.

I see the cause for concern, but I live in the US and things are very sanitary here as far as usage. Not cleaning your hands before and after usage is a big thing to. Also, you need to remember that you are meant to wear a tampon for 8 or 12 or 24 hours. If I wear one when I swim I change about every time I use the bathroom. I use it pretty frequently though. I haven't had a problem using the tampons when I've used them. The ones here now are plastic and better use for disposal than what they used to be. I think there is cause for concern when a woman doesnt want to keep her body fresh and clean if she has the means to do so. I know here, at shelters pads are used because they are easier and they are more in the package as well. I just think that women should make up there own mind about using them after they have heard the facts. And honestly you are the first person that I have heard this about the dieing and the other thing. I would want to do some more research about it before I decided to stop using them. The FDA regulates alot of the products that are put out on the shelf and I would assume that they would have put the warnings if there was such one about them.

yes tampons is ok,i got your point.dont you know it can make women die because of using it for a very long time of period?dont you think we should be alarm about toxic shock syndrome.i tried before to use tampons but when i read about toxic shock syndrome i am so afraid.i do not like to die as young as it is.thank you for haring your views.

yes, there are some cases of deaths connected to tampons.i could says this because women sometimes forgets or unaware if they have it or already removed it.some cases that tampons stuck inside in cannot anymore remove so she was operate other use instruments to insert just to remove the tampons inside.it happens to any women who do not read the direction and not using it properly.

I regularly used napkins. Though also in our country, I'm not so familiar with tampons. Ever since I have my monthly period, I just experiencing 3-4 days of regular flow. Too short isn't it?

Well actually tampons aren't popular in my country, so I use napkins. Even if I can buy tampons easily here, I wouldn't use it anyway. Toxic shock syndrome is too scary, and I'm not gonna take any risks. I think napkins are a lot safer. As long as you keep yourself clean, then you won't have probs. They're even available in hypoallergenic ones. So I say napkins, hands down.

You are right about that . Tampoons get the very inside of us and there could be toxic substances that would infect us.

I've used tampons for years now, and I've had no problems with them. It's just basic common sense not to leave them in for too long (change them every 4-6 hours, but don't leave them in longer than 8 hours), and to change them when you feel the need to change them (for me, if I start cramping again, that's when I know I need to change). A lot of people think that a tampon can get lost or stuck inside, but that's really not the case at all. There's only so far a tampon can go up before it runs into a barrier (in this case, the cervix).

I couldn't imagine using anything other than tampons. The idea of having a diaper on 4 days a month rather disgusts me. I don't want to be reminded via padsmell that I'm on my period. I'd rather plug it and go.

Hmmm. I didn't know that tampons can have that effect if you leave it on for too long. Anyway, I use napkins during my periods, I don't like using tampons cause I don't like the feeling... I only use tampons when I have a period when I'm going swimming or in the beach or something.. and that's the only time I use it.

Hey Amyson, I use napkins, when I was younger one of my friends in high school, forgot she had a tampon, she ended up fooling around with this guy, and the tampon ended up getting stuck, they had to operate in order to remove it! Since than I have never even tried tampons! I rather just use a napkin and not risk anything.

I'm a light girl with this so I generally always use a small pad without wings. I don't like the ones with wings they are a pain in the neck to me. The wings always get stuck or soemthing. I have tried tampons but they just dont feel comfortable for me and since I'm so light I don't really even need them.

hi amyson when I was younger and used napkins I never ever used'tampons because I knew they could infect you and lead to toxic shock syndrome. I never used tampons as napkins were not'that expensive and were so much safer and I changed them often too to keep clean and avoid infections.

When I was younger I could only use the pads and even then they annoyed the heck out of me . I remember buying those real bulky ones for the night . They took up the whole under pants and really did feel like a diaper on. Now I use both actually . When I am heavy that is when I use both at night i mean . And I just use the reg size pad because for me they work better. I wear a tampon because I dont wanna feel it or anything . Kinda like outta site and outa mind . I just hate the mess of it all... YOu know what i mean.

Hi Amyson, For the longest time I used the sanitary towels/pads (what we in the UK call napkins) because they seemed easiest and honestly, tampons scared me because I didn't have a clue how to use them But after chatting to someone who used tampons I decided to give them a go and now if I am working outside the house, or when I go to sleep I use tampons. Apart from the fears of inserting them wrong, I haven't had any problems. I did read what a leaflet included said about Toxic Shock Syndrome but I haven't had any adverse effects from them yet (and hopefully never will). I will only buy them from a company I trust though, I hate the idea of getting them stuck or something like that because I went for the cheap option! All the best, Dranz

hi too,oh well thanks for answering i know tampons are very well known in your place.but i have read some incidents of toxic shock syndrome.i very curious of it that one leading causes of it is by using tampons.here in the Philippines mostly filipina women are napkins they even do not know what is tampons.i do appreciate that tampons is also safe when it use with right direction.

We seldom used tampons here and I see that no tampons are availabe on the market. I remember that my mom used to use the tampons at their time, but if the tampons are on the market again, I believe seldom of us will use it as it is inconvenient to use with carrying a stripe. I use napkin and maybe plus the pads if the flow is big. Napkin can absorb more and we can throw it out once it is dirty.

I use to use pads all the time, but now I use tampons. They are more sanitary for me. At first I didn't like the feel of a tampon, but now that I have been wearing them for awhile, I am use to it. I can't even feel like it is there. I never forget about them either because how can you forget when you have your period? I get really bad cramps though, so that always reminds me of it. I use more tampons now than pads. Although I do alternate too so I do not get the Toxic Shock Syndrome. It would be very rare for you to get this disease though. There are a lot of people that don't like tampons though. It is just your preference and what you like the best.
