Do hairdressers drive you mad?

I don't know about you, but I find hairdressers rather difficult to communicate with to the extent that I sometimes wonder what is wrong with them! One time I sat in the chair and put my fingers to the exact point where I wanted my hair cutting, and I thought I had made that very clear. She cut it a good few inches shorter and I was sitting there fuming. I eventually asked why she should have cut it so short when I actually showed her how short I wanted it and she said "Well, it will be that long when you straighten it!". Yeah, but it's up around my ears if I don't straighten it!
The last time I went, I didn't take a picture but I wanted her to cut it short at the sides and longer at the back. She swore blind that she couldn't do it short at the sides without 'blending it in' and she actually cut it so I looked like I had a cap on my head, it was so short all over. Many people have their hair short at the sides and I just the shop left bewildered.
I have learnt my lesson with these little cheap hairdressers because I have had the best results when I pay a bit extra. More upmarket places seem to understand what you want a bit more. I really must always find a picture of what I want next time I go!
Does anyone know what I mean?

Absolutely!
I have a freelance hairdresser, and he has become a good friend, but he always!! does it wrong..ie, too short (he is scissor happy).
I try to explain what i want, but he always seem to not get it quite right.
I also wanted it short at the sides, and longer at the back, but he also said he could not do that? Why? LOL..i have seen some lovely styles, that are layered, but shorter at the ears, and fall in, to the neckline, but he never seems to understand what i mean, so i got a picture, and he did the style, but it was still too long at the side when he was done.
I know exactly what you mean.
The nicest cut i ever had, was a long time ago, i paid a lot of money for it, but it was gorgeous, but i have got into a habit of just phoning my friend, as it is convenient, as he comes to my house to do my hair.

Scissor happy, lol.
I've found the best thing to do is find a picture of exactly what you want (which isn't always easy, as I flick through the magazines and all the models have long hair), and even then it can go wrong, like in your case!
The last time I went, the hairdresser got a bit snappy with me when I tried to explain, so I sat there weakly, and said "oh it's just what I wanted!". I have been cursing that woman ever since! x

I would probably do the same, in fact, i do, i say thanks very much, etc, then do nothing but moan all day, about it being wrong! lol

I had a situation where I really need to get my hair done; I want to look pretty again and I have this notion of gong to the hairdressers; anyway, the junior college has a place where you can get your hair done by students for way less. And I have been before and come out look fly. Well today I went and though the lady asked me and all and took me to where the beauticians were, somehow there was a breakdown of communication because the ladies said they couldnt take anyone but at the time I didn't know it was because of the fact that their plumbing is not working. if I had known that, I would have left but I was under the impression that they were waiting for someone to tell them to take customers. So, I waited but finally got the right explanation. Of course my time in waiting was lost, but life goes on. This happened today as a matter of fact.

Well, that's not as bad having a bad hair-do! I hope you've got it sorted out by now and you are looking fly again! It does make you feel good to get your hair cut, but mine is awful at the moment - bird's nest. Maybe I should check out getting my hair done by students as I never have enough money to go to the expensive hairdressers I like. x

Hi crystaltips, you must find one who understands you and never let them go, it's the only solution. I've stuck with mine for six years, she works alone very professionally and fast too, and I take my son along at the same time to get his done too. We're usually out of the door within half an hour for about £17, but I can never get it as good again until I go again. The one time she was away and I broke down from need and called in an expensive salon I lost a good few inches despite saying I was growing it, so I think it depends on the person wielding the scissors, rather than the price.
