Why was Bayani Fernando not chosen as the presidential bet in 2010?

Yesterday, Sec Teodoro was finally chosen as the administration's candidate in the 2010 presidential election. The decision was made by the whole party, and it is final. Bayani Fernando however, accepted his fate and I think I should admire him for that. However, why do you think Fernando was not chosen? I think that it terms of popularity and achievements, he has also proven something. I am not on the other hand, saying that I like Fernando as president. What's your honest opinion? No hurting words, please.

Yes as the headline goes " "President Gloria Arroyo's ruling coalition on Wednesday named Defence Secretary Gilberto Teodoro as its candidate in next year's presidential election." This announcement of Lakas-Kampi-CMD coalition of course must have devastated Mr. Bayani Fernando who is really very keen in running for President. Well, sadly he was not chosen maybe because the more moneyed rival has all the financial edge and political influence. Mr. Teodoro who is very young at 45 is the second cousin of another Presidential aspirant Noynoy Aquino. It is the Aquino clan family showdown in the May polls should we say? Honestly I don't think this Sec. Teodoro will ever win. How is he related to Danding Cojuangco? He has not even proven himself and I just got surprised he was suddenly in the Presidential list. Well perhaps he have already accomplished some great things that I may not have known but comparatively speaking I think Bayani Fernando is more deserving. He was able to convert Marikina into a model community and I think his strong conviction to teach discipline to the Filipinos is one good reason why we should vote for him. Personally, I will vote for him if he will still run in the Presidency. Teodoro has the money and the influence of course but that will not earn him the Presidency. Noynoy will feed him with dust I'm sure. It's a toss between Noynoy and Villar. Sadly Bayani is out of the race because he is not that popular yet especially in the remote provinces. Also he needs a strong political machinery to be able to win the race. At any rate I will still exercise my right of choice and I will certainly choose him come election time if he opts to still try the bid.

I think even if Bayani Fernando will be chosen he can't convince the masses to vote him because of what he did like demolition. He should be sports and accept what his fate is.

Well, i think it is because Sec. Teodoro is young, intelligent, rich, and is a cousin of Sen Noynoy Aquino... like fighting fire with fire... everybody knows there is a sort of competition between the Cojuanco's in Tarlac... so this is like a way to spice things up... Cory's side of the Family already has a hero, Senator, President, and famous TV personality... so the other side are trying to catch up... Aside for these... i think a lot of people also knows that Bayani Fernando made a lot of enemies with all the demolitions and MMDA bruhahaha... not all is impressed with all those pink and blue barricades... although they did help lessen traffice and people now do use those flyovers... but then Bayani obviously will not get the votes he need to win to become President...

Well, they actually did make a study about the most appropriate color to use... one that is not prone to vandalism and with a calmin effect to motorists indeed... and that is the pink that Bayani Fernando used... but i guess they did not take into consideration that it will indeed get dirty a lot easier because of the smoke pollution...

Considering the exposure Sec. Teodoro was given the past few months it's very obvious before they made the choice that he will be the administration bet for the 2010 eletion. That is probably why Bayani Fernando acccepted it without so much fuss. I think Bayani could also be a good President if he would be given a chance but perhaps the administration has looked for somebody who's personality is not tainted with intregues and scandal and so far Sec. Teodoro fits that qualification. I hope that people won't base their vote on the current administration and give Gilbert Teodoro a fair chance...Good luck on our coming national election in 2010...may we find the best president that the Filipinos are so desperately searching for....

bf lacks charisma although he does understand the essence of publicity. he's actually my bet because i think he's the one who can actually make changes and these changes will be visible and felt. however, i don't really expect a dark horse scenario here. he's not your traditional politician although i'm not saying that he's above the dirt and corruption of politics. i don't think he'd be the one to court the masses, entreating them for their votes with the usual junk politicians spew. it has always been about discipline with him and raising the bar for the quality of life people live, although not a lot of people would get that. i don't see him as anti-poor but it's easy to see why many would. teodoro is clearly more intelligent and articulate than bf, but i'm tired of words, i guess. sure, he can match the other candidates in terms of image, but that's basically why i think bf is the one who can bring something different to the table (the problem, i suppose, is with articulation, lol). at the end of the day, i think bf is more effective and teodoro just leaves me, um, bored? like i'd be more excited to see the results of bf's work. jmo :)

Haha that's so funny and simple, because he simply sucks! The members did not want to have a country that looks like a zoo! He's such a LOSER! The members chose a LESSER EVIL politician to stand out with the ADMINISTRATION's pick to at least have a better fight in 2010 Presidential race. iSupport Noynoy Aquino!

Personaly I like Bayani Fernando and he's my bet for the next presidency. I like the fact that he cleans up Metro Manila and I believe a clean environment makes people productive. Well he can still run for another party, better yet make his own.

I watched it all on ANC. Bayani Fernando wasn't at all prepared and Teodoro ran all over him. Some say it was a setup, that Teodoro already knew what the questions were all along. Nevertheless, Bayani still somehow made a fool of himself when he gave out answers that even high school students won't dish out. One thing I noticed though, when they were both asked what they would do with graft and corruption, neither gave a solid battle plan in tackling them.

Well he didnt seemed well prepared for the task that was before him if he had any serious plans of running for presidency, judging from his answers. He should have hordes of staff to take care of this stuff but he was lacking in this part. He appeared quite embarrassing for me. And for a moment I was thinking of voting for him because of what he has accomplished as MMDA head and in his own city of Marikina. I am totally disappointed by everything that happened yesterday. I guess the party wanted someone who can bear himself well against Noynoy Aquino. And Teodoro for me has at least has some good answers (he was prepared for all the questions ! ) and has shown that he can handle any question thrown at him. Saying that I still wouldnt vote for him. He reminds me of Gloria, it is kinda condescending how he is always democratic in his opinions about the current administration. It's like he's always careful of his answers lest he irk GMA. Bayani Fernando, sad to say though he has accomplished a lot of things in Marikina and in the MMDA, has gained the disapproval of the displaced squatters and vendors not to mention the motorists that has alway shaken their fist at those pink barriers ( not to mention the many accidents that pink barriers has caused, drivers will always find something else to blame !) Discipline just doesn't agree with majority of the motorists today ! And that being said, imo Bayani has lesser chances of winning than Teodoro. So he got passed on, with the administration's machinery behind Teodoro, he can fly from being last in the popularity poll to top 3 at least !

perhaps, he is not chosen because his party feels that he is not capable being their standard bearer. Because if we base on the question and answer made by the party. Bayani Fernando, answer in short form that will not interact people while Gilbert Teodoro, answer with wisdom and seems to be prepared...? Or maybe because Fernando, having a little trouble in his inhuman treatment of the poor in the street. This person has many human right violation filed in the office of the commission on human rights while Teodoro is cleanse with that particular activities... If I were their..I bet Gilbert Teodoro(Gibo) than Bayani Fernando...How about you my friend?

Maybe he's not that "Pogi"? heehee Bayani catered to Manila, let him have another government position first as long as not a politician. Let him be DENR or GSIS or something so that he can prove he can handle being one of the most powerful person in Philippines.

Although he was a bit popular because of his accomplishment on traffic management, but I dont think he's that popular to some congressman in the constitution.

I think Bayani Fernando was not chosen by the administration party is because he is not as popular as we think he is especially to the rural provinces plain and simple. Yes we know him here in Metro Manila as the no non-sense, have political will guy but what about in the province, He can't get any votes there. I would want him as a President but he didn't sell himself to the party very well plus they found a messiah in the administration and that is Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro.

I dont understand the whole situation either. I don't get it why they're feeding a new one like Sec Teodoro to the executive race. I mean Bayani is new too but at least he has tried governing Marikina. If people had only lived in marikina, you would know how huge its transformation have been.I have lived in Marikina when it was still very poor and "ugly" but looking at it now makes me want to live there again. I am not a pro Bayani either but if there's someone who deserves to be on the presidential race from the administration, I think there's just him. He really seems like the executive type, very aggressive and productive so the seanate or congress position does not suit him well.I think they chose Teodoro for an entirely different reason and not because of the ability to be a leader. Whatever it is, only them would know.

Well basing from the Q&A that happened during that meeting it seems to me that the answers of Teodoro was far more logical and intelligent than that of Bayani's answer. If I were there in the conference I think I would choose Teodoro to become a standard bearer also. Bayani's accomplishment since too limited to NCR only and is not felt by the whole nations. Although I can see that he has made great things in Marikina and the whole of Metro Manila but compare that with Teodoro that he was able to really kept in touch with the masses in the provinces thus having an advantage in terms of keeping in touch outside Metro Manila. I think that is vital since you will be working with lots and different kinds of people if your will become the leader of a nation. I think the Admin's bet is also as good as the opposition except of course the candidate would have to carry with him the bad image that the present administration is carrying. That may put him down in the surveys as well as the election time.

to tell you honestly, i laugh when i came across your topic because i remembered the news i saw regarding the administration chose teodoro over bayani. They were asked some series of questions and bayani was not able to deliver well. bayani may have the popularity and exeperience but intelectually teodoro has more. hehehehe.
