Do you wear apron while cooking and keep any towel on shoulder?

I always enter the kitchen in a hurry and feel lazy to wear apron before cooking. My husband keeps a small napkin on his shoulder and uses it while cooking. But I do not have patience and the towel keeps falling, sliding on my shoulder as I usually wear some synthetic saree and the pallu of the saree itself is slippery. Do you wear apron or keep towel or napkin with you while cooking?

Hi Buchi, I don't wear apron nor putting the towel on the shoulder. I'm the chief cook in my family. I just like to prepare a dish or two if I have considerable time. My husband's eldest sister is the chef in our kitchen. She prepares the daily two meals 6 days in a week. Yeah, she wears apron while cooking. Sometimes she even gets her hands dried on the apron . Here I haven't seen anyone busy in the kitchen keeping any towel on shoulder. I wonder whether it's for wiping sweat as well as the wet hands. My Hindu neighbors even don't wear saree when cooking in the kitchen. They wear blouse and sarong at home. I could see them wearing pallu and saree when they attend any special occasions or during festive season. They always look charming in the beautiful traditional clothes Happy posting

Yeah Buchi, I like saree very much. I agree with you. A woman would look more beautiful if putting on the attractive Indian traditional clothes. It’s a piece of well designed lengthy clothes, right? I think it’s not easy to wear it nicely for the first time. If I were to have the chance to wear saree, I need your help to put it on for sure It’s really a great new! I’m looking forward to visiting your place now. I love the great present! I wish I could put on the wonderful saree as soon as possible. And have an elegant pose in the photo. So nice to chat with you here my dear. Have a wonderful sunday!

Aiswarya Roy in saree - Aaiswarya wearing saree
Did you watch the show of Opray in which earlier Indian Miss World Aaiswarya Roy was the chief guest? She presented a majenda colour saree to Opray and tied it to her on her pants itself and Opray was looking too good. I will do the same thing and tie saree to you on your pants, (we wear a petticoat on which we wear a saree), a lovely red saree with chemki (glittering small flakes) work in the border and butta (on the saree here and there) with great work on the pallu (the piece of saree hanging from shoulder downwards at the back. I really mean it my friend. If you happen to come to India, I will definitely do that. Hope God fulfills my dream.I tried to upload Aiswarya draping saree to winifred opray. But could not. Hence sending this aiswarya in saree image to you.

Human relationship is marvelous thing God has given to a human being. It will work wonders in any person. A good and affectionate relationship, be it between parents and children, between spouses, between friends, between teacher and student, gives immense pleasure to all and be of help in need. But people do not understand that and measure with material things. What is that we are going to loose, if we spread love and affection and sincerity in our relevant relationships? I feel very happy to see your discussion or response and immediately I notice a lovely friendship bond between us. My mind gets a full feeling like telepathy and says there is a well wisher somewhere for me. Is it not a great thing above all other matters? I always spread love, never mind whether others are hurting me or exploiting me but my affection is true. That is why, my mother-in-law, who brought enough turmoil in my life, took my hand in her hand before her last days and asked for forgiveness. She said if it was your mother, could you not have forgiven her? Please forgive me. I am writing this with tears in my eyes, keeping at the back of mind and heart, all the problems I underwent till now and how happy I am now with lovely kids and supportive husband. I never expect reward my friend, God is there to give me. When God is with you, nothing is worth worrying. SORRY I bored you. You tapped the soft corner of my heart. Thanks friend. I accepted you as my friend and I will be a true friend to you. God bless you and your family.

In my home cooking is done by kalyani and my daughter in laws, they don't wear apron but keep a towel like thing over the shoulder, this is of pure cotton and locally spun, this is not heavy and more absorbant than heavy turkish towel.... Best of luck. Professor

Even my husband keeps a towel on the shoulder. But my saree gets wet near the sink of the kitchen, hence apron is useful for me.

Hi, Buchi_bulla. No, I don't wear an apron while I am cooking. I am really considering buying me an apron so that I can wear to keep from any food stains splashing on my good clothing. I don't use a towel at all either.

When we stand near the sink and wash vessels or hands, the edge of the sink will touch our dress and will wet it. If we wear apron, the dress will not get wet. So this is also an advantage of wearing apron is it not?

I must say that you are very lucky that your husband knows how to cook and even willing to wear apron during cooking. May I know which type of apron that your husband likes to put on? Bib Apron or half-length type? Men will feel wearing apron is a "girly" thing and only woman does that. I haven't worn one in the past, but later I learned about wearing apron from my mom. Now, I wear apron when I am cooking and even washing dishes. It keeps my clothes clean, I don't want to jeopardize my clothes. Besides, I will wipe my hands across the front of the apron. It is a very convenient and fast way while I am busy with cooking. Therefore, I never keep any towel on shoulder. I am afraid it will slide down to the wok and add an extra taste to my dish, LOL!

Hello, Buchi, Neither do I wear apron nor napkin while cooking. As I am living alone, I used to cook 1-2 simple dish for myself only, I would not like to spend too much time on it, it usually takes me less than 45 minutes. Next week my parents in law and my son will come to join me. I am thinking of cook some nice food, and then I may need a apron to keep my clothes neat.

No i do not wear either one as i am usually in a hurry and or just dont have the time to worry about that. When my kids are hungry they are hungery and will not wait for nothing and they want it right then. So if i was to do that it would probably annoy myself as ive never done it before.

Of course children's hunger is a most priority over apron. I agree as I am a mother of three too.

Hi Buchi, I never have an apron while doing my cooking. I have a piece of towel keep near to the kitchen ,which I used to wipe dry my hand when necessary. After finishing my cooking and tidy up the kitchen, I will straightly have a shower and change my clothes. I also need to wash my hair to get rid of the oil smell. I might consider getting an apron next time for my cooking session.

Hmm wearing an apron depends on the dress I am wearing at the time of cooking, also on the type of food I am cooking. If I am wearing one of my favourites dress (even though I have diffrent set of dresses for home)I wear an apron. Also if I am making some snack or frying something, I wear apron. It also depends on the weather. If it is too hot and humid, I never think of aprons...haha

Hi Buchi No I don't wear an apron I do have a towel that I keep on the handle of my oven to wipe my hands while I'm cooking, an apron to me is just to confining and it sort of reminds me of a housewife from the 50's I remember watching I Love Lucy (Ethel seemed to always have an apron on, so did Alice from The Honeymooners) and Leave It To Beavor and other 50's sitcoms and those mothers always seem to have an apron on as though they were tied to the stove all day long .

Ya ya even I remember I love Lucy lady wearing apron. But while cooking for festivals or occasions, wherein we cook more and in a fast manner we will be catering to four burners, our dress may get dirty, so better to wear apron that time.

Hello there. For me I wear apron whenever I start washing and seldom for cooking. If I'm not wearing the apron, my whole shirt will get wet because my dishwasher is quite high and it's about above my belly. The splash from the tap really can get my shirt all wet like taking a bath with a shirt on.So with the apron it can avoid it from that thing happen right. And I do wear the apron when I seriously do all the cooking. And when that time happen I won't allow anyone interrupt me at the kitchen.Hehe.

I did not wear the apron while enterring into the kitchen and I know that the kitchen is very dirty and greasy there, but it is very stuffy and hot in the kitchen that I can not stand wearing the apron. But I will wear the glove while washing the dishes to protect my hands. Happy Mylotting.

I don't even own an apron. I wish I did but I guess not so much because I've never bought one. LOL I do try to keep a towel on my shoulder. But mostly it's on the counter near me someplace.

Yes, I like to wear apron when I cook, I don't want the cookings make my short dirty or get splashed on the clothes. And sometimes it is convenient to wipe the hands on the apron after I wash the hands; I have other towel in the kitchen for me to wipe hands so I don't need to keep another towel on the shoulder.

I hate aprons as my mom and granma made me put on an apron when I was little as soon as I got back from school. So I don´t even have one. As for towels I do have one in the kitchen for my hands. I don´t dry my dishes. Just leave them to dry in the dishwasher. I´m usually with jeans at home in winter and with shorts in summer. They both find easily their way to the washer, specially now that I have Lola (the 50 Kg beast of a puppy that loves me and throws herself on my clean clothes).

I usually wear apron if I'm dealing with nasty fried food. I just don't like the oil soaking my shirt.

No I do not wear an apron while I am cooking even though it would probably keep me from getting my clothes dirty which does happen sometimes. I do not have a towel on my shoulder but I do keep one handy so I can wipe up if I happen to spill something. I also have paper towels chose by in case of a spill.

I don't wear an apron but I do keep a towel handy. Sometimes I have it over my shoulder, somtime hanging out of a pocket and othertimes just next to me on the countertop. I like to have it close by to wipe up anything necessary when cooking. Aprons are a bit much to me. I think they get in the way. My mother in law uses one when she cooks and when we cook together she always tries to get me to wear one as well but I just can't bring myself to do it.
