A BILL that will allow authorities to cut illegal downloaders from the web has been approved by French lawmakers. The Bill is one of the toughest ever drafted against internet piracy and has drawn worldwide attention as countries debate how to deal with online piracy. The revamped Bill passed through France's National Assembly after 285 deputies backed it, with 225 voting against, most of them from the main opposition Socialist party. It will now go to a parliamentary commission before a final vote by both senators and deputies – expected to be a formality – before the legislation is definitively adopted. The Socialists however said they would again appeal to the Constitutional Council to have it blocked. Worldwide trend In Sweden, a similar law has led to a sharp drop in illegal downloading although critics predict the effects will be short-lived and argue it is an excessive breach of personal privacy. Britain introduced a similar law in August that has not yet gone into effect. It is due to be voted on by parliament in November. Australia is also considering moves to disconnect internet pirates under a "three strikes" system. I can admit that at times I download illegally, and I know it's wrong. Australia is one of the countries getting targeted now apparently under a three strike thing, which I hope doesn't happen, as I live in Australia. Have you ever downloaded illegally? Do you still do? What do you think of the new rules? Is it fair? To read the whole article go to : http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,28348,26085816-5014239,00.html

That's really bad for those 3 countries "as of now". Well, I am one amongst those thousands, but now I don't download any pirated applications. No worries for me, as such law would take "years" to be effective in our country.

I don't know if piracy can be stopped, but if it can, I'm all in favour. Piracy is stealing, and if we can prevent stealing, or even lessen the crime, we should do so.
