Owlwings has given a good and true meaning of "Less is more".
This is an expression often used in arts and crafts. Give a child a book cover, or a photo frame, or any object to decorate, and he/she is not satisfied unless the whole is covered. Give an older child the same article and he/she will add decorations neatly and in place, but most will still tend to overdo it. Give a person with art and craft talents the same article and he/she will add just a few things, placed in such a way as to create a focus and an attractive design. Less is more. Less is added, but it is more attractive.

It means that, often, the silences and the spaces are worth more than what is actually said or that the simplest instruction or action is often the most effective.
It's a use of English that tries to exemplify its meaning in itself (three words that mean a great deal more than their actual dictionary meanings!)

HI wqdayang, well for me it means simplicity. Too much of anything is not good, such as with your looks, if you put too much accessories on your outfit they will not see the beauty of your dress. Or let say wearing too much make-up may not compliment your features instead it will make you unpretty. :)

Hi, if you have too much things in your life that are irrelevant or just you're dragging this things through your life and they bother you and you can't life your life the way you want - then you have to let them go, have lesser things, but have a more enjoy in your life!
