How to Handle Life's Financial Curveballs

I'm a teacher, which already make me low-man on the financial totem pole. I love my job though, and can't imagine doing anything else. Recently I took a job teaching in Mexico. I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, but the pay is pretty terrible. I'm trying to keep my wits about me by using the power of positive thinking, but am needing some practical advice on how to make some extra money fast. If anyone out there has been in this situation, or has any advice, I would love to hear from you.
