Just curious why so many people would encourage a teenager to keep a mohawk, when in the real world....getting a job having one is slim to none. So what job do you think might hire someone with a mohawk after all?

I agree that this is a very tame mohawk. I really hate the fact of these very strict guidelines. Why would someone with a mohawk get less respect than someone in a suit.
I feel it's not fair to discriminate someone on that, unless it's neccesairy for safety issues or something like that. If we start being more loose about this, children will learn that being yourself is ok. You can put on other clothing for work, but why do you have to change your complete hairstyle?
The worst (and best!) example I can give is of a mother who had a young daugther. She was friends with a guy with a huge mohawk, piercings, etc. Her mother forbid her because he was considered dangerous by her mom. This girl was walking down the street and allmost raped by a guy in an armani suit with very tidy hair; her friend (with the mohawk) pulled him off of her and slapped the guy in the face, he ran off.
Even though there were eye witnesses, the mother was angry because she had seen the guy without permission. She didn't even thank him for saving her daugther. She just wouldn't believe that a 'decent man' had attacked her daugther and such a 'monster' saved her.
So basicly, I think this whole society needs to change.
But since that's not going to happen on short term; either loose the mohawk or look into the lot of great uppertunities that other people have posted allready.
Hope that helps!

I hear what you're saying about the hairstyle not determining the demeanor of the person. Unfortunately, by wearing it....you are automatically linked to category or type of person because of it. If you don't want the association, don't wear it. I would have a hard time trusting the judgement of a doctor with a mohawk, piercings and tatoos or with my life if he was a surgeon. Not sure what it is, but appearances make a difference in how people perceive your character.

There was a young man that worked at our credit union, that wore makeup, spiked his hair and sometimes put it in a mohawk style, wore face jewelry and he lasted nearly 2 weeks before the bank got so many complaints on this kids odd appearance they had to transfer him to a position somewhere no one had to physically see him. From what the branch manager shared with me, the young man ended up quitting the job after a month of time.

thats a fairly tame mohawk, so I wouldn't think there's be too many jobs that would turn him away

He wanted to become an EMT or fire fighter, but for now he'll probably try to work for Costco, Home Depot, or Fire Stone Tires. He has an opportunity to train to become an Electrician or get into Sheet Metal too. I know those independent companies have higher standards for their employees appearance since they are dealing with customers in their own homes. Thing is.....this kid is a Science & Mathematic Genius....he CAN do anything he puts his mind to, yet the motivation to make something of those talents aren't there.

tattoo parlours, piercing shops, bars, clubs, hot topic, old navy, some other retail & food service places (some have very strict guidelines, others don't).
a great gig i can think of for someone who wants to keep their hawk is to become a bartender. you'll make great money.

You make good points and a great suggestion.....so wearing the hawk represents the crowd of people you desire to be associated with, I take it.
Same with a short GQ styled haircut, then you're setting yourself up for any career choice your heart desires instead of a limited few.

getting a hawk sets you into a group of people whether you want to be in that group or not, just like other hairstyles and styles of dress will do.

Any job you wear a hat at, pool halls, tatoo parlors, piercing places, bands, modeling ... mostly limited to low paying jobs at chain resteraunts who are desperate for employees. Is that really worth a shnitty style? I guess it's cool when your parents are supporting you, but you're gonna have to ditch it when they kick your a$$ out.
