Are You In?

When someone comes to the door who you are not expecting do you answer? Do you hide away and hope that they'll go away, or make straight for the door and say "hello".

Now of course I am not bothered with that and would love some company ocassionally loll

Well when I open the door then the first thing I say is "Oh please come in" Even if that's my neighbors who come in several times a day, but my mother says to always welcome then nicely.

Even to a stranger?

Not to stranger of course I might tell them "Yes what do you want" as there are so many people who comes to sell their stuffs. But I will never allow a stranger in my house if ever I am alone also.

We live in a secure building with a buzer in the lobby. If I don't know that someone is coming, and the thing goes off unexpectedly, I don't answer it. Today it went off for a ddelivery, but I was expecting that. I also ask people, if they have cellphones, to call me from the lobby, instead of buzzing, because the buzzer makes the most awful noise in the world, and I hate hearing it.

I wouldn't answer the door if I'm not expecting anyone unless I am told someone will come but don't know when but most of the time I am not close to the door anyway I spend most of my time in my shop, computer, cleaning the house or outside

I can imagine that those places distract you enough without callers.

Oh, Id really rather not answer the door by myself. If there is someone who I can ask to answer the door, then I really ask them to. If I was alone in the house, I sort of "hide" first, and try to create the illusion that no ones home. Then I try to look if the person at the door/gate is someone I know, then I will answer, if not then I just hope he/she would go away. Though there are those times that I do peer out and ask who they were looking for or what was their purpose. It's just a rare thing for us to get visitors and if we do have them, its more than likely an expected one. If it is the mail of bills, the collectors here have the habit of shouting the company name, telling us that its an important billing notice. Otherwise, they would just leave the bill in the mailbox.^_^

It's bad enough getting a bill without the postman telling you and the world that it's arrived! You have my sympathies.

I have been known to hide. One of these days Alan Rickman will come, and I'll be caught out in my dressing gown, cowering behind the coffee table. Bad luck, Alan ... if I'd known you were coming I'd have baked a cake!

Normally it's Mr.Panda who answers the door as he's the one sitting nearest to it. I don't mind answering the door to anyone, but usually callers who I know just knock and walk in anyway.

Most times I answer the door. I love the look on the faces of people trying to sell me stuff when I ask if they can read. We have a sign which clearly states we don't buy from doorstep sellers. Usually it's the neighbours little boy wanting to know if Mr Croc can get his ball or play cricket with him. It's difficult to ignore a persistent six year old.

for me its not a matter of whether or not I'm expecting them...its more about whether or not I even want to see them LOL...but 9 times out of 10 I answer the door and if I'm not in the mood for a visit I just cut it short..Now answering the phone is a different story...there are plenty of tiems I'll let the machine get it just cuase I'm not in the mood to chat regardless of who it is

Our phone only rings four times before going to the machine. I've been known to hurl myself round the house like a demented banshee trying to get there in time. Only to find: "Are you thinking about double glazing?" WTF! LOL.

Nope--if I'm not expecting someone I never answer the door. Often my bell will ring and first thing I do is take a look out my 2nd floor apt. window...if I see a mail truck or UPS that's different. Otherwise..nope. There have been many times I hear voices out in my hallway outside my apt. of some salesmen or these religious nuts wanting to save my soul. They go door to door and I ignore them...I don't want to buy anything, nor have my soul saved.....of course most of the religious fanatics tend to ignore my door, why? I have a pentagram on my door....I am after all, pagan/wiccan

I am Never "in" whether it be someone at the door or someone on the phone P1key...Unless I have a specific appointment and know who it is Or Unless there is an emergency, maybe someone sick in the hospital etc. and Then I will answer the phone/door all of the time. I figure if I don't know you are coming or calling then you are just going to bother me to buy something or give my money to you one way or the other!

Unless it's a person I really know, I pretend not to hear it. I don't really like to entertain guess and I don't know whether that person come with good intention (this apply for strangers regardless whether they show up during night or day) It's better to ignore and pretend I am not at home.

I usually answer the door. I've never pretended to not be home when someone I'm not expecting has called. But there were times when I've pretended to be busy with some work and asked my kids to answer the door. I've told whoever it is that it would be a while getting done with whatever I am doing and if they don't mind, they can wait in the living room. Most often than not, they have left. This applies to only those unexpected guests that I do not like.....a few of my friends know they can drop in univited anytime.

It depends on who comes to my door. If it's a kid, I will answer the door. I try not to answer the door when adults come and try to sell things. It's hard when my kids look out the window and they notice them. Now once I had one guy bang on my door, so I had to answer it quick. I was afraid he would wake up my husband, since he gets cranky if he is woken to soon. I need to get a sign and put it outside that states that I don't want to buy anything. Maybe then that would solve a lot of my problems.

That's just to funny, I bet that guy wished he didn't knock on your mother's door that day. I have seen a sign that says No Soliciting, GO AWAY, I like that because it's direct and to the point.

My mother has a sign that says that she doesn't buy at the door. Once she had a man knock on the door who said that he couldn't read the sign and could she explain it to him! Whilst she was collecting her thoughts he started to try to sell her something. He didn't stay long!

If I am not expecting anyone I always look through the "peek hole" and if is a stranger or someone from a religious sect I do not open the door. They do not stay long on the door step as my 3 dogs sound very ferocious!

Hi pikey xx I must admit I dont always open the door. I sneak up quietly and look through our peep hole. We have a curtain on the door to block the window. People dont know you approach the door until you open it. We are known to get religious people come round, which we dont like listening to what they have to say. If Im not expecting anyone, then I wont answer the door. Mind you we dont have many people knock.
@p1kef1sh (45681)

I don't mind the religious ones - I give as good as I get. I'm thinking about a curtain too. But that's to help keep us warm in winter! Good to see your here again by the way.

Im trying to fight my mylot inbox, its very full with digests at the moment. Getting bored of facebook now so trying to get back into the mylot groove. I dont like the religious ones, surely if I wanted advice or information, I would seek it outmyself!!?? Great to see you on here too x

Well the only time this happens is if my parents have arranged an appointment with someone and then they go out and the person arrives. We don't have random friends coming to the house luckily as this would make me feel rather ill from anxiety. Even sometimes when someone knocks on the door and I know it is important for my parents I can't go and answer it! When I have my own place I hope no one knocks on my door or bothers me because it would feel weird and slightly intrusive of my own space. I like to go home at the end of the day and feel like it's my own space away from the rest of the world where I can just relax and re charge for the next day.
