I am new to online shopping. I have only bought two things till now and both of them were less than 10 dollar purchases. I am scared to buy expensive things because I wonder if the website deliver on time. If they don't deliver on time, I don't know where to complaint. I don't want to take the risk of loosing a lot of money. What about you?

I have been shopping on ebay for the past two years and at first I have to admit that I was really scared as My money on paypal could have been lost too but a try was worth enough and my first transaction was of $3.40 for some pearls I bought up now I can buy things even for $300 on ebay as it is very secure and you can even sue the person too if the goods are not delivered and it a wrong one too.

Thanks for sharing the information with me. I am new to this and I want to learn more information about the trust worthy websites. I have heard a lot about ebay. But, I don't like the idea of auction and then waiting to get the date of auction over. I may need to buy something today which I may not need tomorrow. Thanks for the response.

Hi daliaj,
I too scared with online purchasing so I never purchased anything from online. I think it is good if you are starting with less cost items and may be you will trust online purchases and start more online shopping. I have doubts about the quality of goods and whether they deliver it properly etc.

The risk of faulty delivery is always there on online shopping. But a reputed firm will not do that. So you have to check up with the company's reputation. I bought pen drive, books and pen through online and they are ok and arrived in time.

Thanks for sharing the information with me. Right now, I have purchased two things onine both from the same website. I got the things delivered in good condition and on time. I am worried abut buying expensive things because it seems many people had bad experiences. I can affordn buying things till forty or fifty dollars, but I don't prefer to take a big risk.

I too do not like to buy very expensive items online. I have ordered from Amazon.com large numbers of books that add up to a lot, but I have learned that most of the time, the books come through and Amazon is a trusted seller. Each book is cheap, so that if one doens't get delivered and it has to go to a dispute, its not that bad. Or I will order more expensive items directly from Amazon and not from the second-hand seller. I know of people who have gotten into disputes on Ebay which is one reason why I don't shop there much, also I do not like the auction system. But I share your fear of being cheated.

I do buy expensive things online for alot of reasons.
1) It is very convenient for me since i dont have time to go to the mall, it is easy for me to choose the things i wanna buy on line.
2)It is very affordable for me to buy expensive thing online because most of the time it is pre-order. The seller will let you pay the item for a certain time.
3) Aside from it is affordable for me even if the item is expensive, The items i usually bought on line is 100% authentic. (of course u should know the seller, if he or she is legit...)
4) There are things, clothes, shoes, etc,. that you can only see / buy online :)

I starting shopping online way back when the internet was still starting. I was fearless then, shopping at amazon every now and then. However, a few years back, I had a horrible experience when my identity was stolen. I stopped shopping online and just shop the old-fashion way. It's a great cardio too!

Although I enjoy shopping via the net, but I am afraid of buying expensive things via the net. The disadvantage of online shopping is we are unable to see the real thing we are going to purchase. We can only judge it by its photos, descriptions and others' feedback. So sometimes the real product will be different than what we have seen online. The most expensive thing I bought via the net is the bread maker. I am glad that I am satisfied with it after I got this product. It saves me a lot than buying it from the department store.

Hi daliaj. Actually, I am scared to buy anything at all on the net. I am not sure if I were to get the kind of product that I really like. I am not sure of the hackers around. I would rather buy directly than online.

Hi daliaj,
I seldom do an online shopping. So far, I did it less than 5 online shoppings in my whole life.
It is pretty convenience to buy something online, just need to get ready your credit card and wait for the thing to reach you in a few days time.
There is once I browse through an online store selling kids' stuff and I am quite interested to purchase some nursery songs for my son. Since it does not cost much, I bought 1 piece of cd (nursery song) and i received the cd in a week time. This website can be trusted,so I make another round of purchase for my friend's daughter as her birthday present.
Another website that I make an online purchase is GAPS (US website). My close friend is delivered a baby boy and I wanted to give her a suprise. I was browsing thru Gaps website and found some nice t-shirt and pant for his lovely son.
Gaps also provide free wrapping service and my friend received my suprise present in a week time.
For conclusion, you can always make an online shopping, but set a budget for yourself(amount you are going to spend on the online shopping).Make sure, you have the company contact and address details in hand in case they are SCAM.
Can try give them a call for confirmation before you make a purchase online.Or if your friend ever do some online shopping, get the websites from them. At least your friend has gone through it and the website is trusted.

I only bought one thing that was at a 200 dollar cost almost online only once. Nothing happened to the credit card as far as I know, that was like 2 years ago.
I dont purchase anything online but we just have to be careful as to what information is placed there and wether it is safe or not, I always call the business just to make sure it is legit, now I know that doesnt help much but it does give a bit of piece mind making sure that Im buying from an actual business and not by someone faking it.
As for delivery options, its always prefferable or a better idea to have sent out to you directly to your home adress, that may cost you extra but at least U know it WILL be arriving to your home. I dont trust my mail service here, they always look things up and open stuff so anything that isnt a letter and needs to be shipped out here, they open it, see it, take whatever is of value of it and leave it trashed.. thats another story for another day
So what I would recommend, always buy something locally, if you have to buy something and I mean HAVE to buy something online that you need, do so by taking the necessary precautions and making sure who the merchant is, operations, prices and things like that, also important to verify if they send in your country if they accept currency and things like that and make sure its all correct.

I am very concerned about buying the really expensive item online. I usually buy most of my online stuff on Ebay. I buy from sellers with lots of experience and really high feedback. I guess if there is a problem I could do a chargeback on my credit card or report the item on Paypal so I can get refunded.

YOu have to be careful shopping onlnie. Do your research. I first compare prices and then research the company itself. How long has it been in business, do they post a contact phone number on their site, do they h ave good reviews. I also check out e-bay. You can get a lot of good deals through e-bay especially on things like a WII and electronics. Just make sure that you check the person out. I do not buy from anyone with less than a 98% rating and they must be with the company for over a year with several customers. As long as you are careful I see nothing wrong with shopping online. It is faster and can save you quite a bit of money.

I buy online all of the time. Recently I bought some diamond and saphire jewelry online. I look for two things before I buy. 1. There has to be a contact number on the website and on my receipt (the one you print off after ordering)
2. It has to be on a secure sever (the little lock at the bottom right of the screen.)
I've gotten a lot of really good deals by shopping online.

Teach him a lesson.

I have similar concerns of buying online. Although I know if the site is reputed then it would deliver the product. However if the product is damaged then I would have to search their customer service department. I don't want the hassle.

Hi Daliaj. Even I have not shopped anything online and I dont like to do that right now. As we People are not used to buy things online, most of us would be hesitant to do that. Online bookings and other things too are getting sprouted up just in the last 2 to 3 years. I never even use my Credit cards for shopping purpose since I feel that you get to know the real feel of your spendings only if you spend them in the form of Cash and I moreover feel that instead of spending 2.5 to 3% as service charges un-necessarily, we could do something useful instead of that. Thanks for starting this discussion and have a great day. Happy Mylotting. Cheers..
