Extending Unemployment

Congress will vote today upon whether or not they should extend unemployment yet again. Now for those who have been searching for a job for months this is a great thing, but I have a couple issues. If this is to be extended again I believe that the people on it should be showing proof of several things. They need to be clean and sober (yes drug tests), and have proof that they are looking for a job. My cousins ex is why I feel this way. He has been on unemployment for almost a year thanks to the extensions. He has been denied visitation of his children due to his cocaine use during this time (guess whose money is paying for that, your tax dollars), all of his child support has come from unemployment and not only has he not been looking for a job he is adamant that he doesn't need one because the system is paying his bills.
I am asking for people to contact their Congress reps. and put out there that higher standards need to be set for unemployment and other public support programs. There are illegals, dead beats, drug addicts and some who are working under the table all receiving these benefits at our tax payers expense. This is not only one of the reasons our country is in debt it is why so many Americans believe they are owed something when they have done nothing to earn it. Good people are denied help because there isn't enough money to go around while others who should not be getting it are.
Please Americans wake up, speak up and do something before it is too late.
Don't know how to contact your Rep. go to www.congress.org, there is a place for you to put in your zip code which will give you a list of your Congressmen and woman. Also you can explore and see what it is they are doing there in D.C.

Hello OpinionatedLady...Good to hear from you..
I will have to agree with some of what you have said. The unemployment office needs to be more into their clients. My husband has been drawing unemployment for about 6 months. During that time he only had to report once and didn't have to show proof of looking for work. He is union worker who finds him work but still.. I know other people that are out doing jobs and aren't turning in what they get paid. We set here and are very honest and have problems getting from one month to the next month. The unemployment office needs to have a better system of monitoring their clients...

Wow, see for honest people that's not so bad but for those who just abuse the system it is ridiculous. I hope your job search get's better. I do not know your husbands qualifications but have you tried USAJOBS.com it is a site for government jobs.

The site is a government site meaning it can be a pain to deal with but if you can get a job through them you can be set for life. Heavy equipment operators are looked for as civilian workers on many military bases try looking into those. My husband is the mechanic who fixes and tows the heavy equipment. Good luck

You have sound issues on this. But, what about the guys that work hard and utilize their unemployment as time for a vacation and look for work but not as hard as they would otherwise. Higher standards are fine. I understand what you are saying. I think that some of the types I am talking about will have a bit of a problem with this. I hope it works for all.

There's one big problem with the extension bill: Unemployed people in Colorado won't be able to receive the benefits because Colorado's unemployment rate is below the national average. I have been actively looking for work since being laid off. The companies at which I've applied either told me I didn't have enough experience or they simply picked other people for their open positions.
The House has already passed this bill, with three of Colorado's seven representatives voting in favor of it. I contacted my senators today asking them to oppose the bill when it gets to them. The last time I checked, this was the United States. The unemployed in Colorado need that extra help just as much as the other 49 states.

Funny...not really, it's just that out of the people I know in Colarado they have all lost their jobs minus the minister and his wife. They are near Rifle and all worked on the rigs.
