Yes....I drive myself most of the time. I don't like to always depend on my husband when I want to go out.
I got my first driving license when I was in my high school. During that time, I don't really have chance to drive myself as I was away to Singapore for further study. Ended up, my license is expired.
After I got married and moved back to Malaysia, I have to go through another driving lesson here. Attended the class both practical and theory. Passed both exam, then got my Driving License. Spent about RM1000 for the whole process and it is worthy!!
I was so happy when I passed my driving test,at last, I can drive by myself.
I always drive by myself to wet market, nearby supermarket for groceries shopping or do a window shopping. It is more freedom to drive by myself without depending on my husband. I want to have my Own Free Time at least once a week, while my husband is at home taking care my boy.
Share with me, do you drive?? or you prefer to get someone(ie.friend/husband) to drive you out? Is it difficult to get a driving license at your country?
Happy Weekend!!

Hello Shia,
For me, I got my driving license when I was 18 years old. There I started to drive. I drove to work part time whereby my skills at that time was not so good and I could only drive to places nearby my house. I was giving tuition at that time. After that I meet my hub and I drive less. We have 7 years relationship before we got married. I enjoy being chauffeured around by him where my driving skill at that time was not so good and I was so stress to drive in the busy road.
After married, I have to drive more as most of the time when I go out, my hub need to be at home to take care the kids. And some times, when my hub is busy with his business, I just need to drive myself.
Just want to ask, you have your own car or you share a car with your hub? My sister gave me a real shock yesterday. She called me up and tell me she got a summon because her road tax for her car is over due! Look, it is overdue for 2 months already! She just too busy and over look! The summon cause her a bomb!
So for drivers out there, do check your driving license and road tax !

Hi Vingyan,
I also got my first driving license when I was 18 years old,I got it when I was in Indonesia during my high school time.
I did not fully utilize my driving license and after that I went overseas for further study.
Till I married my husband, I feel the need to have a driving license for myself. It will be more convenience for me to drive myself rather than asking my hubby to drive me out.
At this moment, I am sharing a car with my husband. We are only a small family and at this point of time, we don't see the need to have 2 cars at home as it will be burden to us also.
Therefore, during day time, I seldom drive a car unless I have some urgent things to settle, then I will send him to work and have to fetch him back home late afternoon.Normally only weekend or night time, I will drive myself out.
Oh my good, your sister got a summon. How much it costs?
I remembered well my husband also got summon parking at the yellow line, lucky does not cost much ,only RM50 and my husband went to pay on the same day. Got discount somemore, only need to pay RM30.
I always pay extra attention to roadtax and driving license, make sure it is still valid before driving out. It is not worthy to get summon just because we overlook them!!!

Hello Shia,
Yeah, get a car for myself is a burden too, ! But I am glad that I don't use my car that much so I still can cover the petrol fee! LOL.
For my sister, she got the summon because of 2 reasons. First, her road tax is over due, secondly, her car insurance didn't renew. Normally the sales agent will call her up to remind her to renew everything that is due date! But some how this year, the agent is not doing so! My sister has to pay RM300 X 2 because of the two issues there.

Hi Vingyan,
Do you mean that you pay for our own petrol fee for your car?
Since you do not drive it often,it is still ok,at least does not cost that much.
Such a bad day for your sister, that is a big amount of money.
Just to share with you,my husband has a bad day yesterday morning.
On his way to work, he knocked someone's car ,the good news is that another party car is Ok,but then our own car is not in good condition, the front left bumper is damaged and need to go for repair,it will cost few hundreds bucks again.
Such a bad day for him !!!

I got my driving license in May 1995, and my first car was bought in July 1995. I do enjoy the driving by myself, and I don 't really enjoys having people driving me around.
I would rather have it to drive myself to places which I want, provided I know the traffic there is going to be crazy, and I would just for a short while, I got someone to drive me so I don't have to worry about the parking and so forth.
It's quite easy when I got my license, as I don't have to go through lots of hassle. I used to drive my mum around when she don't drive previously.. now that she got her car, she does enjoy driving on her own in town and she will do that on her own.

Hi Cwong,
You seem enjoy driving yourself. That is great !!
I also prefer to drive by myself to wherever place that I like to go,rather than has to depend on my husband all the time.
Especially when out for shopping, I prefer to go by myself. You know some guys don't really like shopping,I always feel uncomfortable to shop with my husband as he will follow me here and there and seems getting impatient.
Does it means last time there is no need to go through any practical and theory test to get a driving license??

I've been driving for 30 years! I live in quite a rural area, so it would be very difficult going anywhere without being able to drive. I'm also a very bad passenger, which means I'm always putting my foot on an imaginary brake pedal when someone else is driving! The driving test in the UK is very difficult now, and I'm pretty sure that I would have difficulty passing first time if I had to take one now!

I think at the moment the driving licence lasts until you are 70, but I wouldn't be suprised if that changes.

Hi Katsalot,
Living in rural area is more inconvenience if you are not able to drive by yourself. Having own car make yourself to travel anytime you like.
I am just wondering do you need to renew your driving license or it is once in a lifetime???
In Malaysia, we have to renew our driving license,it is depend on the period that we want. we can choose either 1 year, 2 years,3 years or more. The longer the period, the costly it is.
I have my malaysia driving license around 4.5 years ago and it took me about a month to complete the learning process and passed both the theory and practical exam.
Now, I am like a Free Bird, can drive to anyplace that I like ,provided my car is at home.
