I just heard about Mrs. Obama's grocery trip

36 car entourage accompanied her to a farmer's market to get kale and other things for something she wanted to cook. The food was probably imported because farmers in California are shut down because of a little fish. What do you think HER carbon footprint was for this trip for a few vegetables?! Our government is full of hypocrites. Selfish, greedy hypocrites! Do your part by voting out ALL incumbents in 2010, please.

I don't think that Michelle Obama has any say in how large her entourage is. That's set down by the State Department. 36 vehicles seems monstrously overkill but I doubt that she could do a thing about it. Did you know that every time the President, any President of the USA, goes abroad he is met by a cavalcade of US security vehicles and personnel who are flown in a day or so beforehand. The carbon footprint of the US administration is massive whenever he travels. The current administration is terrified that Obama will get shot or worse, some nutcase will try to kill or kidnap a member of his family. Now some will say that Obama ought to be assassinated. But the truth is that he is the leader of (an increasingly precarious) free world and as such his, and every other President's life should be protected at all cost. The President's bodyguards are the only people other than our own security people, that are permitted to carry weapons in Britain when protecting him. No other world leader gets that courtesy.

I still think it's overkill. I don't agree with the president on hardly anything but I pray for his safety and that of his family every night. I can't imagine why anyone would want to harm him and I say that in all sincerity.

I agree entirely. However, you were implying that Michelle was wanting this huge entourage - I am quite certain that isn't the case. I never cease to be amazed how much energy is expended to save energy!

yeah though that is very large entourage but she is no ordinary person specially there are many people who seem to have obama. and so tighter security is very much needed for her. we don't know if there are some crazy around just waiting for opportunity.

Oh dragon, I hate to disagree with you but, if you're referring to Mrs. Obama's trip to the grand opening of the Farmer's Market in Washington yesterday, her support has been a good thing for many people. Washington, D.C. is a large city and, in many of the inner city neighborhoods, it's nearly impossible to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. Michelle Obama is promoting healthy eating, which is always a good thing. I'm glad the Farmer's Market is going to be there every Thursday.

It's a very good thing to support but when we are in such trouble financially is it really necessary to have 36 cars to escort her?! I can see the point you're making and it's a good one but there's so much of our tax dollars being wasted in DC that it nearly makes me physically ill.

yeah i think that it is good that Mrs. Obama is for healthy living and organic vegetables. But i think lots of Americans are health conscious already but she does send a good message to people in promoting a healthy living.

I wanted to add that it is like back when 0bama was first in office, he wanted everyone to keep their thermostats at 78 degrees and yet his staff complained that he kept his office up in the high 80's. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

The hypocrisy is astounding. Like Al Gore, the "global warming" king, with his huge houses and private jets.

Well you have to realize that this was a big event with many people, it isnt as if all the security is withing 10 ft of her, they are wide spread it only takes a sharp shooter to take her out from far away. You also have to realize that Obama is one of the first presidents that has been threatened with his life so verbally. Although I believe that most is bs they have to take it seriously.

Someone threatened him already? That's not good. Even though I think he's ruining the country I hope he and his family stay safe.

I am not sure how she is being selfish because she wanted to go to the famers market......She needs security. There are alot of nut jobs out there. THat is just the way it is. She shouldnt have to give up shopping and live in a glass cage because she is the presidents wife. I say good for her.

On one hand, I agree with you that she should not have to have her life restricted. But she and her husband knew the restrictions when he applied for the job. He pledged to cut down on government waste. Surely she can stand 4 years of limited movement while they supposedly try to get the country back on its feet? (I don't think they are trying, they're destroying the country financially and very deliberately, but people will catch on if they continue this type of behavior)

It’s really ridiculous. Before this post I had very good impressions about her and her husband, now I changed. They are not the couple I imagined. I think the law should have regulation how much they can spend from public money. I don’t know much about politics; now just feel it’s disgusting. There are too many lies in them. I don’t like. Thanks for sharing the news. Best regards.

Thanks for sharing! A lot of people were deceived about the president we have now.

They shouldn't be spending ANY of the public's money. If they want to be a good example, they ought to be taking care of all of their own wants and needs on their own, not by spending money taken from US. Otherwise, I deserve a 36 car motorcade and security everywhere I go, and I should get to take money from the public to pay for it. Of course I would never do such a thing. Even if I could. Even if I were supposed to. It's morally wrong... and my nose isn't THAT HIGH in the air.

That is so stupid...like she couldn't send one of the staff to the store instead of making a circus out of it. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Ok, this is downright stupid. A lot of the things they do are downright stupid. Why do they think they need to have an entourage to begin with? I wouldn't do it at all, not because of principle but because it's a WASTE. Yes our government IS full of hypocrites and I believe they should all suffer. All of them.

Fortunately, the Secret Service, who are charged with the responsibility of protecting the president and the First Family take their mandates seriously. You don't need an entourage...neither do I...but the First Lady needs the protection. This is no longer a safe world.

Perhaps, but it is also a gigantic waste of money. If they are mandated, then they need to do it for less money, or NO money. If it is simply THAT important, then they'd do it for no pay, wouldn't they?

If they wouldn't, then sorry, it is all about the money and it has nothing to do with anything else, and then we get right back into waste, the almighty dollar, hypocrisy, and stealing from the public. I do not believe they deserve to take any money from the public for this.

I don't think so at this point. Mrs. Obama seems genuinely interested in children and setting a good example for them and the community. It's just that setting that example is proving to be very expensive at a time when there isn't a cent to spare.

Its security precautions. There's a lot of crazy people out there.

But 36 cars?! I wouldn't want any harm to come to her or any of her family but I think it's a bit of overkill. It's almost an invitation for some crazy who sees the motorcade.
