With so many choice in online friendships whether its myspace, facebook, virtual world , forums, instant messengers, email, dating sites and the list goes on and on. About 5 years ago, we relocated from northern US to southern US. My family is all here in this area, and so they have become our network of friends. When we lived in the north, we always had people over. Much of our time back then was about what we were doing with our friends. As we transitioned through a significant move in our lives, so did our interests. The distance between us and our friends from our "home" is more than just thousands of miles.....it's also the way we approach our lives. And so these days, my time is spent socializing, sharing and connecting with my family - husband and children as well as siblings and parents. But I do love to do the same with people on here, and although I'm new to mylot, there are people whose posts I very much look forward to. This is a great conversation....thanks for opening it up to us all. Connection isn't about knowing someone in person, it's about sharing your true self and feeling the same from the other person(s) with whom you share.

The internet does really help with staying in touch with friends and family for long distances. It is so hard when you relocate. I love meeting people that i wouldnt be able to except for the privledge of internet. It is all in the connection and it doesnt have to be in person.

Lately I spend most of my time online but I value my real life friends more than my online friends. Most of my real life friends, I know them personally. I don't go dating and stuff online, one of my purpose of having friends online is to learn. The internet is a wide place and it has many things to offer and there are many pretenders out there so just try to be careful in choosing who to trust:)

I have found some very good online friends and I enjoy "talking" to them online, but they could never replace my real life friends. I like to spend time with my real life friends. We drink coffee together, we go for a drive, go to a café or a party etc. We talk, laugh, joke and things like that and I would really miss my real life friends if they weren't a part of my life. Some of my online friends have become real life friends, and that is great. I was nervous before our meeting, but it went really well and we have met many times by now.

I have had online friends turned to real life friends too. I can totally realate to the nervousness you speak of. I think everyone should be cautious in these situations and get to know the person very well first before taking it to real life.

I would definitely spend more time with my real life friends because they are the real friends & in an emergency situation, I can't expect my online friends to come & help me. More over I go out with them every weekends & we used to have fun which I won't get from my online friends. After all there are possibilities that an online friend can become a real life friend, however that has never happened with me yet. Happy Lotting

I agree with that online friends cant usually come and help in a physical way when you need help. I have though gone to parties and concerts with online friends in a virtual world environment before and i have to admit those can be sorta fun cause its almost like a real life event.
