Do you think the ban of smoking in bars was right or wrong?

I am not a smoker and I don't like cigarettes. It is a nasty habit and a smelly one at that. I think it was a great idea that they put a ban on cigaretts in the bars. It gives the people who don't smoke room to breathe. Second had smoke is worse on a person then actually smoking a cigarette. This keeps more people healthier. I would rather see healthy people that unhealthy people. Cigarettes are cleary bad for you and if you can you should quit. Don't quite just for your health but the other people around you as well. I am glad the goverment put their foot down. I am very happy for that. It needed to be done.

Maybe it would have been nicer to ask bar owner whether they wanted their bars for smokers or non smokers. Then, maybe, there could be a place where smokers can gather and smoke while they have a drink without bothering the others.

amen to that! even just having one room inside where the smokers can gather while still enjoying their drinks and staying warm would be nice! I am a smoker, and when i have a few drinks, i smoke even more heavily. I hate having to wait until i finish my drink to go out side, freeze my behind off, and have a ciggarette. This usually acuses me to down my drinks faster, so i can have a smoke break, which then means i either get may more inebriated than i want, or that i just don't enjoy my visit to the bar as much.

I think it was stupid for them to ban smoking in bars
seriously which is more unhealty...smoking or getting drunk?
I would say frinking causes more problems to yourself and others so why not ban that instead?

I think it was is definately the right thing to do as it is actually worse for the person inhaling second hand smoke than the person actually smoking it in the first place, secondly there is children that go to pubs and bars with their parents thus they would be inhaling this awful smoke so for this reason it was the best decision, but on the otherhand if you look at the history of food and beverage smoking was seen as a part of a meal in france ,well i think it was france a long time ago smoking was set for a perticular time during the meal ,it was seen as a way of relaxing so for this reason a part of history has being taken away, but when you weigh up the odds it was definately the best decision,

I pleasantly disagree. As an ex smoker I still believe that smokers have rights too, I think that it should be optional for bars. I couln't imagine going out for drinks and not being able to smoke. I do like that most of the restaurants have gone smoke free, but as far as just bars and pool halls, I think you should be able to smoke. If you don't smoke then find places that are smoke free. There's nothing much better than pounding some ice cold ones while shooting pool and watching the cowboys with a smoke dangling from the corner of their mouth. Yumm-o!

i think individual bars should be allowed to decide. i'm a non-smoker, and i don't recommend anyone to start smoking, but government bans on private businesses are wrong.

I agree that it is a nasty habit and it does stink. I am a smoker though. I drink occasinally also but not in bars. I do not like the smell of smoke or like the nicotine it leaves in the area either. Weird isn't it? I'm glad that they did enforce it for nonsmokers though.

I do think it was the right thing to do. I don't smoke and I used to hate going to places where people would be sitting there smoking away like a train! I would end up going home after an evening out, smelling disgusting and for a reason that wasn't self-inflicted! I think it is good that smokers now have to leave a building and smoke outside if thats what they wish to do. I don't think that the ban has made people smoke any less, but I do think that it has made life a bit easier and fairer for those that do not smoke.

I don’t think the ban of smoking in public against of smoker’s right. I do respect their right, but the non-smoker’s right should be respected too. The smoking in public will be harm to non-smokers, so smokers should not smoke in public. In private space it’s their right and freedom. We all should follow the principal of not hurt other people’s right no matter what we do in public.
I feel glad more and more countries in the world ban smoking in public. I hate smoking.

I am a smoker. And i enjoy going to the bars. Unfortunately drinking makes me want tosmoke even more LoL...
Luckily i was able to enjoy my first year of being 21 and being able to go to the bars while still being able to smoke in them, before they changed the law in my state.
I understand the desire of those who aren't smokers to nothave to be around it if they don't want, but as a previous responder said, why can't the bar owners either choose whether or not it is a smoking establishment, then people can make an informed descision as to whether or not to patronize that partiular bar, or else give the smokers a small area in which it is OK to smoke indoors, away from the non smokers.
I have somewhat gotten used to it now though, as we haven't been able to smoke indoors for some time..but it still royally sucks in the winter! the only plus side i see to it is that if you have to go outside to smoke, you can get away from all the noise and confusion inside the bars, and start up some really interesting conversations and meet some neat people while smoking a ciggarette outside with them.

I don't like smoking either so the ban for smoking in bars is something I wouldn't mind. And besides, I'm not a bar junkie so why bother in the first place. On the other hand, I think this is good news. At least it'll help people prevent lung cancer and other smoking-related diseases.
