Whether teachers like it or not, in this height of time, computer usage is a must. As the use of computer technology in teaching and learning has expanded and as the importance of critical reading and thinking skills has become emphasized, many commercial software products are advertised in promoting critical reading and/or thinking, helping education mush easier. So to speak, this aid the teachers make teaching learning process way way more effective. But what happens when teachers don’t even have the basic knowledge of computer usage. As far as the reality is concerned, we all know that not all teachers had the opportunity and worst had no desire at all to patronize this kind of high end means of sharing ideas to students?

Believe it or not but my Business teacher often asked me what to do, when she was supposed to be teaching me that very thing. (In case you don't know Business is very similar to IT). Teachers often don't know what they're doing and another problem they often have is sorting out volume and speakers in my school. Of course they don't have much help as even searching what to do on the internet wouldn't help as the majority of websites are blocked! I would hope that my schools teachers are given training ever so often and the school now has about 4 technicians that can help them whenever they are stuck.

well that's sad.basic computer training skills for the teacher must really be realized.a school apparently can't have better yield of students if this scenario keeps going on. i also experienced that before when my teacher can't even know how to turn off a computer. so sad.

Perhaps you should lend her a remote in order to turn it off.

I don't think that there is much need for all the teachers but it depends on the subject. most of the subjects like maths, science & English does not need computer for the teacher at all. I have never seen or heard of any teachers teaching with computers. However teachers teaching computer & related subjects should have all the knowledge about computers. I think my opinion is fair, right? Happy Lotting

those subjects are hard and i personally believe that learning can be enhanced when students see new teaching strategies.one of which is the patronage and integrating virtual information with colored graphics and others.i just hope teachers are open to that.

I am a primary school teacher. I did my degree and teacher training at the University of Wales. I wasn't at all keen on using computers when I was a university student. I took up my first teaching post in 1999. I had lessons from the IT coordinator. My head teacher said I needed to become competent with computers. I bought a computer in the half price deals for computers deal. Over the next two years I got to be able to manage my class in the IT suite. These days I have my own laptop. I feel ashamed when I knew less amount computing then some children in my class. I am glad that I have the knowledge about computers nowadays.

i totally agree with you. computer is very much important in our times. but we can't blame other people or instructors. cause some started teaching in their school when it was not required to have a knowledge of computer. and so i think it will be hard for them to start learning computer just to keep up with the times. and so i think that we should give them time to learn it. computer is not easy to learn. we can't just hurry them up to learn just because they are instructors.

Teachers who are out dated need to learn to use computer whether they like it or not as it is the in things of today generation. In order for him not to be left behind, the teacher need to learn computer start from basic typing as progress to the more advanced phase. it would be a great help to teacher to explain to students the values and importance of computer in today society. Teacher should need to put into actions what he mean not just based on theories.

It would be like living in a dark room not knowing how to use the computer in this well developed 21st century..That would be shame to say that even a teacher doesn't know how to use it..cause teacher are the guide for the students and like the second parents for us..Computer are like the basic needs..all the information are stored in it..so teacher need that information for teaching too..so i think teacher cannot teach without this knowledge..

I do not look at them as real teachers. It has been my belief that teaching is not just the act of imparting knowledge. In my country people used to look down at teachers. At that time most teachers were dedicated, and concerned with the education of their students. Nowadays many see teaching as a relatively easy job, with long, paid holidays. Real teachers would try to keep up to date with all types of development, especially those directly related to teaching. Teaching needs commitment and sacrifice. As it is many teachers feel that once they have obtained a teaching certificate, there is no need for them to widen their knowledge. They have ready made excuses, but as a former teacher I can see the holes in them. If they still insist on continuing with the profession, they need to change their attitude. Teachers who seek knowledge are more respected by their students.

Well, in some specific countries (I think it's wise not to mention them), using computer especially for teachers is something new, and something rare. Unless they are computer teacher, they see it as something unimportant, but honestly they are not wrong. They have nothing to do with computer, based on daily life. Even they do not own a computer, even laptop etc. =)

For me teachers should know every flow of life around them, if new technology emerges then they should try to know how to operate it because they are teachers. people tend to look up to them and thinks that they know everything on earth. Being old is not an excuse for not knowing how to use a computer, they should.. and it's a must for today's generation no matter how old you may be...

I believe nothing significant will happen. Teachers can still be teachers even though they have no idea on how to use a computer. Although technology is booming everyday, it wouldn't destroy the dedication of teachers to their job.

I agree with you. Teacher must fluent to use computer. Technology grow up very fast. Human must be run to get technology. But that is difficult for primary school teacher in my country. A lot of primary school teacher hate for use computer. Other reason is computer have expensive price for them.
