When i was young, we usually turn all the lights off. we hate to see any light turned on. i want to sleep at night when it is so dark and there is no noise around. that was how we sleep before. but now because my father is older now and needs some light at night cause he usually get at night . and he always ask to turn some dim light at least so he can see some light. but before he sleeps with all lights off. and so i got used to with having some lights outside the room. like a light on in the kitchen. cause when it is turned on, it usually gives our room some light too. but in the room itself the light is off but we can still see things because of the light from outside the room. So what is your habit in your home . Do you have some lights turned on usually or do you usually turn off all lights night when retiring to bed at night.

I always like to sleep in a very dark room, without any lights. My wife is the exact opposite, and she needed at least a dim light in the room. She was scared to sleep in a dark room. It took a long time for me to convince her, and make her shed her fear for darkness.

it is good that you are able to help your partner to get over her fear of darkness. i know some people don't like dark places cause they have some fear on it. i tend sometimes to intentionally to make place dark without any light if i feel i am developing a fear of darkness so that i can face this fear head on while it is not yet that big. so that i will not have big fear to conquer later. conquer the fear as early as possible. cause i don't like to develop any fear of darkness. i want to see darkness as a serene thing. where i can find peace and not be a cause of alarm or worry.

Yeah, i do it most of the times as I am not comfortable to sleep with the light on, i opt to sleep with the light off or with slight mini light or lampshade would be enough to drive me to sweet slumber..

having a lamp beside you is great if you need from time to time to turn on and off the light every so often. i have not been in practice of using a lamp. cause it is expensive. we have a lamp that is not working. but i do wish i can arrange my room and i will have a small table beside me with lamp on it. like we see on some hotels . and so i want to make this room of mine like some sort of hotel. with good lights but not too bright only dim. or have different kinds of light.

I prefer that room be dark. I find I can't sleep if there is a light on. I just recently got back from a cruise. I like the inside cabin because there is no window so you can sleep well anytime of the day or night. But on this recent trip the person I was traveling with had to have some form of light on so she brought a night light. I had a very hard time sleeping on this trip. I found I would go back to the abin during the day just so I could take a nap without any light

we keep at least one light on at night, I can not sleep if it is pitch dark, so I always sleep with one light one at night, we usualy leave the bathroom light one.. it gives off just enough light to make me sleep good :)

When I go to sleep I make sure all the lights are switched off except for the corridor lights. This is to economize on the electricity bill.

sometimes i forget to turn off many lights. and so i am mindful of it now cause i want to save on electricity bill too. so i just have one light left turned on at night. all others are turned off.

We turn all our lights off too however, if we have company over to stay the night, we'll leave a few night lights on so they can find their way to the bathroom or where ever they're going and not trip over anything. That is really nice of you to do for your father. Getting older makes a person's eyes not be as good as they were when they were young. They say getting old isn't for sissies and I'm starting to believe that. LOL

Well, the most economic way to save electricity bills is to turn off everything we do not need. And I believe while we are sleeping, we don't need any lights to be turned on. =) My habit is turn off everything I don't need that, because again, I do not want to pay for something which is useless for myself. =)

I like the room that i sleep in dark at night with no lights at all, but i do leave a small light on in the bathroom just in case one of us has to get up during the night that way they can see the way, and it does not affect the darkness in our bed room.

very true. i am quite surprised that many people do leave their bathroom light on just like me. as it has little light compared to other lights in other place of the house. and that is where i often go when i get up at night or other family member usually go at night. it is hard to grope in the dark just turn on the light on and off again when retiring to bed again.

Hi Hotsummer, When I was young, I use to have a dim light in my bedroom. I scared of darkness. and I can't sleep alone at night. I always need a company at night. After I graduated from my high school, I decided to go overseas to further my studies. No choice, at that point of time, I have to brave myself to sleep alone as I will be renting a room and I prefer not to share a room with a stranger. From that time onwards, I am not scared anymore to sleep alone, but still need a dim light at night when I sleep. When I have my first son, I still use dim light, easier for me to wake up for his midnight feeding. As my son grows up, my husband decided to off all the lights in the bedroom. It is easier for my son to get sleep. Or else, he just like to play and play. So now I have been sleeping in a darkness and I have get used to it. With some light around, it is hard for me to get my sleep.

Hi hotsummer... I live in the camper right now which is only temporary..I hope...But when we had a house that we rented I also had to live some kind of light on in the house. I know this might sound strange but I have to see the doorway into my bedroom where I sleep. Now that I am in the camper you can see all way thru and the street light shines enough light for me to see any place in the camper. But Im sure when I get that house again there will be a light on that allows me to see the doorway..Have a nice day and keep smiling...

I could not sleep with the lights on. When i was small around 4-7 I was quite afraid of dark and everytime i watched scary movies with ghost or vampires or ugly stuffs, I always went to my parents room to sleep cause I am too afraid of dark alone. But now after the age of 8 and above i prefer to sleep alone in the dark without any lights. I even covered the windows with curtains so that i can sleep well. Preferably with the windows closed due to unwanted sound early in the morning (CROWS) and also unwanted mosquitoes bites. I love darkness actually compare to the mighty sunlight.

When I was little, I was afraid of the dark and can't really sleep without lights. Now, I can't sleep with the lights turned on. But if I get really tired, it doesn't really matter if it is still on. I just toss myself in the bed and then fall asleep.

I usually do, yes. but not for sleeping preferences...more for the high cost of electricity. We try to use the least amount of electricity as possible because it's so costly. Sometimes I don't mind there being no lights and other times I do...which is why I like having glow-n-the-dark things alotof the time.

I turn of all lights when I am not using them and that includes when I am sleeping. Electricity is too expensive to waste!

Hello hotsummer. Yes i do switch off all the lights around my home before i go to sleep, when i sleep i need complete darkness, its ok if there is a ray of dim light from somewhere falling off in my bedroom but i dont need a complete light in my room as i cannot sleep at all.It makes me run to the washroom 10 times.Thats it i really dont like any light when i am off to bed at night.

We turn all the lights off except we have one night light in the kitchen so, if we get up we can still see some. When I was a kid we usually had a night light in the kitchen and bathroom. I just like to be able to see a little when I get up if no light I would be running into everything like the wall or chair.

Hello Hotsummer, We off the light at the bed room when we sleep. But w on the light at the attached bath room. This makes some light in our bed room and not so dark for the kids. They just afraid of sleeping in real dark bed room. Before I get married, I used to ON the light and sleep, because I sleep alone in my bed room so I felt scared, LOL.

Yes, I prefer to turn all the lights off whenever I sleep. I was used to that eversince I was a child. But I can't say that I can't sleep when lights are on because I do think I can. I can almost sleep everywhere. LOL. But I still prefer to sleep with the lights off to save our consumption of electricity :)
