Dirty Old MAN.

I was at an estate auction a few years ago, minding my own buisness & trying to buy some things for my antique store. I had bought a little lamp & was very glad to get it. I had spied it when i first got there & figured it would go high but i got it for a pretty good price where i thought i could make a little money off it in the store. Up walks this old gripey looking man & he says to me how much u want for that damn lamp. I lookede at him in shock & said excuse me. He just went off on me about being a dealer like it was againist the law or worse. Then he pulls out his billfold & he has a hundred dollor bill safety pinned in it. He says u don't think i have the money to buy it. I was still shocked about his attitude, he was about my dad's age & i thought men that age had better manners. By then he had pretty well p.o.'ed me. I look at him right square in the eye & said i want a hundred dollors for it. guess he didn't know u can catch more flies w/honey than u can w/ vinegar. he ripped that bill out & handed it to me & i didn't feel bad at all taking it. I thought he needed an attitude adjustment & by golly i gave him one in my mind anyway.. Would u have felt bad doing that to him, ? I DIDN'T.LOL.

Thanks for your response. He was a 1rst class jerk for sure but i made a good profit off the jerk. It could have sat in the store a long time before it sold but u are right i shouldn't have let him have it w/his old rude self.

Well this old sour puss deserved it. I don't know why he became so hostile to you. Maybe he missed the oportunity to bid on the lamp himself. In any case people like that deserve to pay for their bad attitude and he did.

I use to be a going jessie that's why it bothers me so much that i'm not able to do what i want to now. I bet he paid attention for the rest of the auction.

I wouldn't feel bad about it either. I had a guy that talked to me like that when I was working at the grocery store. I waited on him, but when he walked about 2 feet away from me, I turned around and asked another worker for a bar of soap. My coworker looked at me funny and replied, "what do you want with a bar of soap?". My reply was quick and I knew he heard me, "I need it to wash that man's mouth out. Maybe then he can treat me like a human instead of a piece of trash." After that the man would be the sweetest person when he came in.

I don't know why people have to act so ugly but seems like they do. Good for u for saying that. He knew he had been ugly & i'm glad he changed his attitude toward u. Was uncalled for to start with. Thanks for your response.

The guy is funny. Well you certainly gave him one for a change. Let me just put it this way. It's business. There will always be people we don't expect to interact with in our lives. Specially those with an attitude. Reminds me of my grandpa. He was a really nice man. But he cusses alot. Really bad habit. Lol. Cheers!

I didn't find him funny at all. in fact i would have liked to have slapped him right in the smart mouth. If he had come to me right I would probably let him have it for what i paid for it because i think he must have been in the family or his wife one. Too bad he had to act so ugly. Enjoy your grandad, cussing & all. u will miss him when he is gone.

What a lovely story. You certainly got the better of him and his rotten attitude. I hope that you made a decent profit. You did not force him to buy it from you soyou should not feel bad.

Morning Aunty, manners come at a cost if they haven't been learnt by his age and $100 sounds cheap at the price to me. Should have fleeced him for a bit more though.

Not when he has an attitude like that. Not at all! I would have probably did the same thing. I find alot of old people have bad attitudes, I think its because by the time they get to that age they don't give a #$%&. Which of course its just not right. When they die people are going to remember the old grouch instead of the nice guy that he was when he was younger.
