Labrador or German Shepherd?

My sister has a Labrador and our family are used to having German Shepherds. When I move to my new house, I wonder which dog I'm going to get.
I think German Shepherds are good watch dogs. They have nice fur and they look cute.
But my sister's Labrador is so adorable!
So now I'm confused on which one is better. Would anyone give me insights about how you see Labradors and German Shepherds?

I have had both, German Shepherds seem to be a little bit smarter and chew less things. But at least you are giving it some thought as to what kind of dog would be better for you and your family, some time back, I found this site and it's interesting with what kind of dogs would be good for you! (sometimes, not even what we originally thought we wanted)

Thank you for this website. This should help me find out which one is best for me :)
I agree about Labradors chewing on stuff. The dog took the car plate off and chewed it like nuts. So my sister got really depressed at the time because they also found out he chewed on car wires :((
I just fine the dog adorable because it is huge and has very charming eyes ;;)

Wow!! Then I shouldn't have been upset about all of the wicker furniture mine ate when she was a puppy! Two years old is about when they stop or slow down on the chewing, that's a long time of chewed up belongings!
They are pretty, though!
I hope you find the kind of dog that fits you and your family!

I love both dogs; both are beautiful, both are loyal...
But really, ANY breed has the possibilty of being a good watch dog and protecter--it just depends on the personality of the specific dog.
Just don't expect to always get the strong, stoic, watch dog german sheperd...and don't necesarilly expect a lovable, laughable lab.
Hey, I looked up a couple dogs for you :) If you don't like these dogs, you should search through all the Adoptable Pets at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, the good thing about them is you don't have to be in Utah to get your perfect pet. The first I found for you is a pretty white german shepherd. The second is an adorable yellow labrador retriever. But they have hundreds of dogs, and it's really easy to search through them by specific criteria (just use the list at the right of the adoptable pet screen). I fell in love with a lot of dogs there just by looking at their bio's! lol

What do you think!?

Well..Best Friends will always have dogs lol
I might be moving soon too. I have a job interview with the Best Friends Sanctuary in Utah (I'm in Arizona). I live with 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 birds and 2 beta fish right now--but the only ones that are really mine are 1 cat and the 2 fish. So if I did move there I would defeniatly need to get a dog ASAP lol. I guess I'll be working at the perfect place for that.

Not sure which dog makes the best pet but keep in mind that German Shepherds are trained to protect and assist the police. They can be very protective of their owners. If I had to make a choice it would be a shepherd. Over the years we have owned an Australian Shepherd and he was a fantastic pet. He was good with kids and a good watchdog. We haven't owned a Lab but they can also be very gentle and a good pet.

Or maybe i can find a dog whose father is a German Shepherd and whose mother is a lab. Is that possible? (giggling)...
Thanks for the insight.
