Apparently there is talk In the UK of regulating the use of Photoshop in advertising. Is this Ok with you? Or is it just another step into the territory of free speech. Personally I believe that since there is not much that is done with Photoshop that could not also be done in a darkroom or with an airbrush, current laws should cover this already. But Legislators still need to feel useful so they find new areas to invade.
What do you think?

[b]Ah, yes.... "There oughta be a law!" The perennial cry of the control freak (& the Left, or is that a redundancy?).
I say, "Enough, already. Buyer beware! Government, mind yer own business!"

But Maggiepie we can't the unwashed masses think for themselves then they won't need The Government. I think that what our government fears more than anything is irrelevance. The certainly don't fear the voters.

I think that in general photo manipulation is OK except where it falsely suggests a commercial advantage. For example, before and after shots on a slimming product. Or to suggest that someone is "ideal" because they have used a particular product when in fact they have been "touched up". What I do struggle with is the UK Government's knee jerk reaction to create legislation following every complaint about something. But don't get me started on that!

I don't think they need to make new laws, all they need to do is go back and update the old laws - let's face it "done in a darkroom or with an airbrush" is practically "prehistoric" technologically speaking.
Many old laws are so outdated today, that they need to be periodially reviewed. Then, they can get rid of laws that are no longer needed OR update them to keep up with today's technology.

You're right... there are many ways of manipulating images. When I took graphic illustration in college a couple of lifetimes ago, there was no Photoshop. We did everything by hand, even the lettering.

I love this regulation!! Nothing should be changed when in print in my opinion. Otherwise it is not the "truth" is it? I don't think it is free speech to photo shop a picture of a person with a picture of another person to make it look like they are together. Or of someone eating something they wouldn't. Etc Etc. I think those who misuse Photoshop so badly, are the ones that brought this on. Sad.
