Dear Mr President,
I am writing to you today for a law to be passed that NO congress member should be allowed to serve more than eight years. After all if you sir have term limits why shouldn't they? I ask for their benefits be cut just as mine would be cut. After all if I leave or am let go from my position after 8 years my medical insurance is not covered by my past employer. After 8 years I am not entitled to a salary for the rest of my life. This is where much is wrong with our government and I call upon you to fix these issues which I believe all of the American people would agree with ne. I ask that when it comes to pay raises for congress that the American people vote for their people in their state on whether they should get a raise or not. Do not leave it in their hands to decide if and how much they receive. Actually I would not ask you to stop at congress but taking it down to the states to include the mayors of a city as well.
I believe that perks should be cut extremely. They should not be able to buy a car but yet the car should be leased and used for job only and not for personal use. I also believe that the government should think about secret watchers, kinda like secret shoppers to see if tax payers money is being squandered. Just like secret shoppers that companies hire to make sure the service their employees are up to their expectations.
In this day and age of the internet I also believe each state should be putting the budget up on the computer showing their employers {which is us the American people) where money is being spent from salaries down to luncheons and everything in between. Everyone in every office should have accountability. I believe if many of these things where put into play that you would find the most honest people to run for these offices that cared about the people (us) and not all about what they can take from the people and for how long.
I understand as president you can not please all the people all the time, But I am almost positive with the suggestions I have given you will please all the people.
Now mylotters I would like to ask you what you think and please feel free to add suggestions.

Um... what you are telling the president to do is not only far beyond his power, but would be GROSSLY unconstitutional for him to even ATTEMPT.
Only congress can set term limits on themselves. Yes, I know it sounds crazy, just as them voting on their own raises, but that's how it is and the president is equal to, not above congress.
The part where you talk about states and mayors though is what I really find disturbing. That would be a disgusting infringement on state's rights and I am 100% opposed to the president, or congress for that matter, trying to dictate term limits to state politicians. That is up to the citizens and state legislatures of each individual state. I for one am sick of the federal government and their power grabs.
The secret shopper type thing is cute and all, but every president does it and it fixes nothing. The most corrupt people are the ones hiring those who are supposed to check where our tax dollars are going. Obama and his transparency are a joke. He's the same as every other president we've had in that regard.

As long as professional politicians are allowed to make a career of Congress, we will never be able to make constructive changes in the way Congress operates.
There is ONLY ONE infallible unstoppable way to eliminate careeerism in Congress, and that is to do
a VOTER-IMPOSED term limit on every seat in Congress. We must NEVER REELECT any Congressman or Senator, NEVER!
Whether he is a good guy, or a bum. Whether he has served only one term or ten. Whether he is a Republican, Democrat, moderate, Indie, Greenie, or 3rd party. Simply NEVER REELECT ANYONE IN CONGRESS. Vote only for challengers.
If we do this for 3 or 4 election cycles, and reduce the reelection rates of incumbents from the current 95% down to 60%, they will absolutely get the message, and may give us a bill for a Congressional Term Limits Amendment. If they don't, we only need to keep it up and NEVER REELECT, which gives us TERM LIMITS by default! Which is a "voter-imposed term limit".
This is the only unstoppable, infallible way to make term limits happen! The American voter must IMPOSE TERM LIMITS on Congress, by NEVER REELECTING anyone in Congress.
In other words, don't let anyone serve more than one term. That's the only way to teach them that the voter is their boss! and that Congress as a career WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!.
Let's wise up, and start voting for our country! NEVER REELECT ANYONE IN CONGRESS!
Forget about who wins the White House. It is in the Congress where the changes need to be made. The 95% reelection rate in Congress has created a corrupt, arrogant class of professional politicians who are only interested in being reelected forever, regardless of the country's problems.
One of the reasons our government is permanently dominated by that class of professional politicians who make a career of getting reelected forever, is that WE, THE VOTERS, are all obsessed with party politics. When has party politics done us any good? Look at the mess we are in!
Half of us are straight-ticket Democrats, the other half are straight-ticket Republicans, and the few Independents' in between are uselessly spread out among Libertarians, Greens, so-called "moderates", 3rd parties, etc, and it has been this way for years and years.
Let's wise up, and start voting for our country! NEVER REELECT ANYONE IN CONGRESS!

I totally agree with you on this. It is not fair that congressmen and congresswomen have these type of benefits. Even when their term is over and finish with, I think they should be treated just like other citizens in this country. They should get their benefits cut off and get real jobs just like us.

Oh this is one of my pet peeves..I live in Australia and our system is the same...I think the perks should cut back while they are in office and cut off completely when they leave....they should be treated the same as every other worker and I don't remember getting the perks politians get...wow don't they look after themselves...why do we all let them get away with it....maybe we should have more choices...we have a two party thing over here i think it all should be changed and bring in good competition seeing as they sprout about this for big businesses.....they are all takers.

I like the term limit Idea, but Obama cannot pass laws, legislation originates from congress, imagine them doing ANYHTING to limit their own power....lol.
I live in the last state in the union to have a "citizen legislature", that is it is a VOLUTEER position, pays about 200 bucks a year plus milage, legislators don't have offices in the capitol, in fat they don't have offices in their home districts, unless you count their own houses. They all hold regular jobs. Now, Isee this as a bit impracticle for the congress, but I would LOVE to see it scaled back to more towards thsi type of legislative spirit.
As to the other suggestion to have states put budgets online, and may do, but, this CANNOt be mandated by the federal government.....

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." ~ U.S. constitution, amendment 10.
this is there for a VERY good reason, the federal government should not have anywhere near that kind of power over the states.

Whoa!! This is awesome!! I LOVE it!! Has it been sent in? And if it was, was it actually read by the president? I doubt it but it would be so cool to know if he actually handled this letter or not. I couldn't have put it better than that! Not even close!! It's the honest truth! There wouldn't be so much wasteful government spending if they had to come down off their high horse and show every little detail of how they spend our money AND benefits that they receive, they'd be put on our level of lives!! Oh gosh!! I LOVE it!!
