My eyes seem to get very dry in the night. I wake up with really sore eyes. I put in some comfort solution this morning before I put my contact lenses in. I wear daily disposable contact lenses?
Have you ever had dry eyes?
If so, what did you do about it?

I had LASIK eye surgery about 6 months ago and since then I do occasionally get dry eyes, but thankfully it's rare. Apparently it's a very common side effect? Visine lubricating drops usually take care of it for me and I've never had to try anything else. The good thing about these drops is that they're not harmful and you can use them constantly if needed.

I did but the doctor told me that i got them from too much exposure from the computer and for staying late at night too often and too much televison. He gave me an eyedrop to use to soothe them but i guess too much of anything really is bad for us. In those times there was this sharp pain i feel in my eyes and when it hurts, i have to shut my eyes close for a few minutes. It is not easy and so i took my doctor's advice and now my eyes are a lot better.

Oh yes, dry eye affects me greatly. It actually gave my mom such problems, that her vision is not as good as it used to be. Soley because of the chronic dry eye. My eye doctor told me while I was on my contacts hiatus (I told you about that in one of your other discussions), to use Systane eye drops. She said regardless of what cost they may be, they are the best to use. Since they aren't prescription, and just over the counter, I did buy them. I still do. They aren't cheap, but they aren't greatly expensive. I got a $2 coupon in my newspaper once. I always feel good when I find useful coupons. lol

I sometimes get dry eyes, but not really that often. Mostly when I have been awake for too long or I have not gotten enough sleep. One thing I do that might not be ideal for everyone is to open up a can of diet soda and drink it really fast. The carbonation makes my eyes water and stops them from being dry.

Hi maximax8,
I have indeed sufferred with dry eyes from contacts. It turned out that with my seasonal allergies, I could not comfortably wear contacts and therefore had to stay with my glasses. In your case though, if no allergies are affecting you, maybe it is the make of the contacts that are affecting your eyes? Have you tried another brand? How about resting your eyes, meaning take turns wearing your contacts and your glasses during the week. Say for example, you wear your contacts Mon., Wed., Fri. and your glasses on the other days. This will allow your eyes to form it's natural tears and you won't continuously suffer from the dry effect? I would also suggest that you visit your doctor, some people suffer from a dry eye syndrome that can easily be taken care of with some prescribed eye drops. Either way, good luck to you and take care of those precious eyes. Have a great day.

Yes, I have severe dry eyes! I have had dry eyes for years! I never have worn contacts, either. I have a lot of allergies, anyway. I also have sjogren's syndrome, if you know what that is. It's not a very well known condition. It's where your glands are dried out. My throat stays dry all the time, as a result. I have to have a glass of water with me just about all the time. I used over the counter eye drops for years. I went to an eye doctor one time who put me on Naphcon Eye Drops. The eye doctor I go to these days has put me on Restasis, which I use twice a day. I also use Systane Eye Drops, which he also put me on, when I need them. This computer isn't much help, either, but I still enjoy it. Kathy.

I went to an eye doctor one time who told me that I inherited my dry eyes from my mother. She had bad dry eyes, too, but she just tried not to pay it any attention. I don't know how she stood it.
I've also read in several of my medical books that your eyes don't produce as much tears the older you get. Kathy.

We have the same problem. I wear disposable contact lenses (I change monthly) and I have this problem all the time. I can't wear my contacts longer than 6 hours and it's annoying if I have to drive. I don't like wearing eyeglasses because they become foggy. I constantly use a rewetting solution and it helps.
