How do you feel about Andrew Strauss being nominated for ICC Cricketer of the Year and also Test Player of the Year.
In my view, his tactics to ensure England won the Ashes were excellent. He out fought and out thought Ricky Ponting for much of the series.
A lot of captains lose form when they are given the captain's role but his form has improved and he has been impressive throughout the summer. Even in the one day series, where England were thrashed, Strauss was in pretty good form.
I would like to see him win the award but are there other contenders out there who you think have a better case?

Well Strauss has had a tremendous year, topping it off with a fine Ashes victory and goes into the betting as 11/2 favorite. Dilshan could be a dark horse, however, he has performed supremely across all formats of game..

Andrew Strauss did not win the ashes due to his tactics, if you think back to 2005 that was a tactical win by Vaughan. Australia lost the ashes due to two bad batting performances. When Australia were going along nicely Strauss did not have any answers. He waited for the Australians to make mistakes. All he did was stand in the slips and yell out 'came on boys'. I never saw him in the face of the Aussies or supporting his bowlers by standing at mid off or mid on like vaughan did in 2005.
Having said that he played well throughout the Summer and was Englands best batsmen by a long way. I like the way he kept his calm, despite the media being on his back after the defeat at Cardiff. He has improved his game as captain but I dont think he deserves the ICC cricketer of the year this time. There are others on the list who deserve it more. Hope Strauss keeps up his good form.

I agree that the Aussies certainly did make some mistakes and ultimately this did help in our bid to regain the Ashes. I think you are perhaps underestimating his contributions - he did a bit more than just yell out "come on boys" a few times. His style is different to that of Vaughan. I would like to know who you think should be the winner. Thanks for your response and have a good day.

Andrew proved himself for last few months very willingly but ashes win is not enough to win the award in my view. My vote is to Gautam Gambhir,he is in grat touch for last few years .He played few very good match winning knock for India in his whole journey so far.

I accept your comments about Gambhir. I think he is a very good batsman and somewhat underrated on the world scene. Perhaps he has been in the shadows of Sachin, Sehwag, Ganguly etc for too long. Would you say there was a particular performance, or perhaps a particular series, that makes you feel that he would be a worthy winner of this year's award. I appreciate what you say about him having been in great touch over a number of years but it is only one year on which the decision is based.
