I was looking through the Sunday ads this morning and noticed the Menard's insert. Seems Menard's is having a Made in the USA sale this week. As I flipped through the sale flyer, every product they listed on sale also has listed where in the USA the product was made..city and state. How kewl is that? And here I was getting so discouraged trying to find products I need/use every day that has been made right her in my country instead of outsourced to other countries. Unfortunately, I don't need anything Menard's has on sale right now. So, have any of my fellow mylotters find out that one or more of the stores they shop at still carry products made here? I sure am surprised!

hi blackbriar,
I am really surprised by this discussion because i thought USA is the most industrially advance nation in this world and most of the top brands like Gillette or General Motors are American. Though when i buy products i do see where they are made. I try to buy made in India stamped products if they are of good quality even if the brand is not Indian simply because my buying the product would in a small way help keeping the kitchen fire of a worker. But i do see the cost too and only buy if it is of same or cheap cost because i have to look for my finance too. But yes i would buy a Sony or Samsung made in India rather than made in Japan or Korea. And if more people thought like this then more jobs would be created in India and more homes would have money and jobs.

Industrially advanced alright. They outsource to China, Japan, Hong Kong only because they can have stuff made a lot cheaper there and sometimes their products are dangerous to our health here in the US. A lot of workers here are losing their jobs due to outsourcing, my husband included, just because they can pay overseas workers pennies on the dollar to make the same thing our workers used to make here for decent pay. Now that you mentioned it, I don't recall seeing products made in India or a lot of other countries either. Mainly Japan, China, and Hong Kong with a few in Italy.

Hmm well you must not be seeing made in India products simply because even though USA is a big trading partner of India the two way trade is quite less between USA and India as compared to USA and Japan or USA and China. But India too produces lots and lots of goods even though we are not good in marketing in west and all our products are usually consumed locally but India is a seriously big maker of Auto parts which you can not see because it is used in engines or you might many things inside your computer made in India if you take it apart.

I know and it's very sad that businesses take our jobs overseas for the cheap labor instead of paying it's own Americans for the same jobs. Also, just because a products indicates it's made here in America doesn't mean the parts come from here as well.

I'm from Canada - but we're in the same boat over here haha.
It's amazing how many things you have around the house that are not actually made in your country (if you live in North America).. I bet most of the things you own aren't.
What kind of things is Menard's selling that are "made in USA" only?

Now that you mentioned it, sleblanc, I can't recall seeing anything made in Canada down here unless I'm not looking in the right places. lol
Here is the link for this week's Menard's flyer... http://menards.inserts2online.com/customer_Frame.jsp?drpStoreID=1
All kinds of stuff that's made here in america are on sale. I think it would be awesome if all the stores followed Menard's example and list where in the US the products are made so we know what to buy here.
