Do you ever put off starting a discussion?

Have you ever waited to start one? Why? I had about 3-4 discussions bouncing around in my head the other night. However I didn't start the, because I thought they would get more response during the day time. Of course I tend to forget not everyone lives in the same time zone I do,let alone the same country.
I did get one or two done that I had in my head, the others...well they floated away! I hate when that happens. Or when you think of a discussion and then someone else write the same one or pretty much the same one!
So have you ever put one off? What happened when you did? DO you think it is a good idea to hold a discussion back until a later date? I know so many questions!! I am making you think today huh?

I get a lot of ideas! But I don't post very often by choice. I've had one discussion with 72 responses! Another with 32, this is to much, I learned to comment to all people who respond to my posts! It gets very boring replying to basically the topic over and over! I'd rather respond to other peoples posts. I can chose the topics I'm interested in and go at my own speed! I do well here doing it this way. It's just a personal decision! Thanks!

You know I hear this alot. About how responding to each response can become repetitive. I agree but I do try to respond to everyone. I used to only respond to discussions rather than post, but lately my mind as been making enough sense to come up with some. I don't get very many responses compared to other users but I get enough to keep me busy.

Well the problem lies with the fact that when you comment to the people that responded to your post, you have to leave a long comment in return to earn some decent cash. Thanks for your response! Doesn't earn you anything! Keep that in mind! T----

Ya know I feel like such an idiot now. Thanks for posting this because you made me realize the whole thing about "not everyone lives in the same timezone as I do so it really doesn't matter what time I post my discussion."
I have had what I thought would be so many good discussions, at least one or two a day but they usually came to me in the evenings when I'm laying in bed to darn exhausted to get up and post them even though I could LOL. So I get up the next morning and remember I wanted to post a discussion but I completely forget what the discussion was supposed to be about. This has been going on for at least two months, can you imagine??? My own darn fault anyhow.
So to remedy that problem I'm going to have a little note tablet handy you know one of those smaller ones and jot down my discussion ideas so that when I have time I can come back and see if there are any similar already posted and if not BOOM it's mine baby!
So people learn from my mistakes never hold a discussion off until a later date without writing it down.
I also recommend having one tablet used for the sole purpose of mylot discussion ideas otherwise you'll probably be finding little mylot notes all over you house for months ROFL!

You know those little "notes"? I have them everywhere! And they are about tons of things, grocery lists that I forgot to take, old statements, notes of sites I wanted to join,or things I wanted to do with the sites. OMG my house looks like a post-it truck exploded! You would think I would want to clean up,but with me being sick and my daughter getting swimmers ear(funny discussion I will probably start later..wait let me grab another piece of paper) I just can't get myself to do it.
Maybe I will write a to do list down, again seems I keep losing the darn things!

I almost always wait. I don't start many at all because I don't always have the time available immediately after posting to get back and comment on the responses. I don't like the idea of starting a discussion and then leaving for work or going to bed so I don't start it until another day.
The time of day makes no difference to me at all because sooner or later, if they are not already on when I post, Lotters will land from all over the world. If they don't find it interesting they won't respond whatever time of day it is
Congrats on 4 figures!

Thank you mys I am kind of proud of my 4 figures
See I often post and go caught up on my other sites or go to bed or tend to my daughter. I always go back when I am done,I guess I figure that no one will be too upset about it. Maybe I should do like you do,do you find that it is a better way?

I'm not sure what is the 'better' way.
I guess we each have our own and that works best for me.

Angie,
Yes, I have put off posting a discussion because I wasn't ready to express myself. Sometimes when someone has more than 1 or 2 discussions, then for me, I read each one and pick one to respond to. I can't spend that much time at my desktop and because I have so many others wanting a response, I have to pick and choose. I have a suggestion, write down all the ideas that come to mind and spread them out. If someone else comes up with it, then maybe it was a discussion that wasn't unique enough. Also, it puts less pressure on you to try and catch up with your responses. What do you think?

That is a good point leenie. You are so smart my friend. I need to start writing things down more, not just about mylot anyway. So I can put it into my routine.
Unique is always the mark I try to hit but I mostly just write what I think or feel. Of course I search first and try to make sure I am not copying anyone else.

That is the exact same way i feel. I was afraid that people would dismiss my ideas and i would look like an idiot. But I decided that my response is as good as any other, and even if I do look like an idiot, I can just learn from it and move on.

Hi,here we mylot members are nearly 200000 and every second lakhs of different thoughts coming as Discussions and responses.Mean time there may be a chance of repetition. So we always alert and whenever you got good ideas you post them instantly. If your discussion is really attract members, time zone factor also has limited effect on discussion. This what i observed,i think you already well known of all this. All the best and have a nice time.

I think i get what you are trying to say. But what if a discussion comes to you in the middle of the night? You can't jump up and go start it. Or do you write it down and then post it later?

Hi,Yes,baby, exactly you caught the point. When we want to participate interestingly in mylot-when we got ideas-when we are not attending the my lot/out of the area, the best thing is to note down that idea/discussion and post it later.O.k.Bye.

To answer your question,i do hold my discussion sometime. Then i realize that the timezone is not really important compare to which interest you post in.For some interest, there are similar but separated by two group like internet which have IE icon and firefox icon.Posting in the one with for people definitely give you different result if you post in the less popular one. What worst is when you have an interesting topic but you post in the interest that is not popular, nobody response to your discussion. Then you can't get any answer for the topic. To add on,you can't post the same post at another interest as it is against mylot rules.

I hold off the discussion because i want to wait for a time that i free.I don't want to open a discussion and left it alone.I believe that when you think of an interest topic, you shouldn't waste it.

Yes I have done so many times but Generally because I felt the need too.. I used to write them down as they poped in my head.. I felt like I was trying to hard to come up with a decent discussion Not some spare of the moment thing...I would rather post quality over quatatity.. I have had a few that I really wanted to start but put of due to disspointment.. Although on one particular discussion I wanted to start was rather personal and I didnt really feel like sharing at the time, or having people pity me but I knew I would have had the support even if I did.... So I took a Big break...
There are so many discussions here and I think many are repetative too.. I find if I start searching a particular discussion which I was thinking of starting I soon get over it and think why bother... It does get harder to come up with Good discussions...

I agree as the site continues to grow and more people get the hang of posting and such, coming up with quality discussions can be hard. And sometime repeat discussions come form two people in similar interests and don't even realize it.

Hi, babyangie
I have always put off starting a discussion here in mylot. In fact, it has been months since I have started one. To be honest, I am not very enthusiastic about starting discussions because, most of the time, I find out that I was not the first one to bring it up! Thus, I have given up. I love replying to other people's discussions here in mylot though. Most discussions here make me think and reflect.
Have a nice day!

Oh you should never give up. I faced this as well when I first started and was one of my main reasons for taking the break I did. I had writer's block in a way. But you should always keep trying. You may post something that no one even thought about or that could help someone with something. With all the interests on mylot there is always one topic not yet touched on.

This happens to me too. I also tend to put off starting one. One of the reasons I do it is thinking whether it would evince the interest of many to respond. In all my discussions just one elicited a good debate, till date. Most other discussions have stopped sometimes just with one response, or two.
Then what you have recounted happens: a very good candidate for a hot debate just moves around in my head I would only be formulating how to put it across then there, it justs melts away out of mind. It may once again re-occur, this time with less intensity of in a much less attractive form, and I naturally push it away!

Notebook paper! I have been told to write things down when I have something come to mind,or like the lamb said just use the notepad on your computer. I believe this is an awesome idea. This way we can make sure the discussion comes out the way we want without it flying out of our minds.

It happens to me a lot of times. Great ideas for a discussions pop up in my head when I'm out of mylot and later when I do get the chance to myLot, the ideas all go away! And I end up putting off for another day the chance to start a disc. Some discs also seem exciting but when I start it and get responses, they just turn less appealing. :-(

Yea the same has happened to me. The other day I posted one and I don't know what happened but it seems like only a small few people even understood what my true question was. It's like the didn't read it all the way or something.

Yes, there were several instances wherein I log into mylot thinking about starting a specific topic. But then, when I am about to do so, I figure that it is either too common, or in some cases the possible response is pretty obvious that there is no point in starting the discussion. I really feel that it is important to post quality discussions since I've been a proponent of the motto "quality over quantity"!

that is a good motto to have. And I agree quality is the best way to go with discussions. I always try my best to do this as well. Mostly though I post what i feel more than anything else. I have probably posted discussions that were kind of silly but in the end I don't think there is anything I posted that I regret or wasn't happy with in some way.

That is good to hear. At least, we can all have a fun time here in mylot. That is the best aspect of earning here since you get to enjoy what you are doing. Me too. I am generally happy with my discussions and there isn't a thing I would change about it.

OOOO that sounds liek a good topic. I will be checking it out for sure Sometimes i do that, but then I end up misspelling something or completely missing what my point was supposed to be. I have a trigger finger when it comes to my keyboard.
