Do you ever take time out to volunteer in your community?

We all have busy lives and we sometimes forget about what matters most and thats giving some of our time to help others. Whether its volunteering 1 hour at the library, rest home, schools, boys club at least you took the time out to give of yourself. I have always volunteered my time and it fills a void in my life knowing I have done my part. Are you a volunteer and if not why not?

I used to always volunteer. I can't anymore because of health problems and not being able to drive anymore lol. (But I'd still volunteer if I could!!) I was a member of our town's fire dept's women's auxillary. Spent lots of days making food for fund raisers, and stuff like that. I also spent about 5 years being a volunteer tutor at a GED center, helping people learn to read, getting them ready for their exams to get their high school equivalency. I miss that! I also volunteered at the local schools, everything from PTA to brownie scouts. Not only did it feel good doing that all, it helped show my growing children to take an active role in their community, and that a community that works together is a good one to live in. Thanks to doing that kind of thing, I have no problem with public speaking, or dealing with organizing things. Being a volunteer is a win-win situation the whole way around!

There is a drop-in centre across the street from my apartnemt where homeless people go to get a meal, take a shower, and use the computers to try and find work. Sometimes my husband will bring food over there to put on the main table for them to eat when they come in.
