Hello everyone. I've been having some trouble with my dog lately. We took him to the vet a couple weeks ago to find out that he is in congestive heart failure. My mom and I thought we were going to have to put him down (the dog is 14) but the vet gave us some medicines, which may help his heart pump better. He's taking Vetmedin, and a diuretic.
We've been maintaing his health, and he had seemed to be doing better. My dad took him to the groomer about four days ago, and now he won't stop shaking. We don't know if he's just cold, in pain, or if it's related to his congestive heart failure.
We've been keeping the house a little warmer than normal, but nothing seems to help. Our vet is out of town this week, so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or has any idea as to what else is going on.
Thanks,
Casey

Hi caseypurdy!
First of all, let me express how sorry I am about your dog's congestive heart failure. It is heartbreaking to see a beloved pet grow old and get sick. I hope that he will get better soon.
As for his shaking, have you consider taking him to another vet just to check things out? Is your dog's vet located at place where someone else can check him? If so, it would be easy to access his medical records.

First thing I would do is look up his medications on the internet and see if this might be a side effect. Then I would contract who ever is the vet referral your vet has arranged. He may just need an adjustment to his meds or it may be something worse but I wouldn't wait for your vet to return.
