Do you think it's hard being "yourself" as a woman in today's society?

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to get some opinions from the ladies on how hard/easy you think it is to keep it "real" with your self (be yourself) in today's society.
I think society and media puts alot of emphasis on selling this un-realistic thought
of being able to gain some type of possible perfection...by using the right products, or wearing the right clothes or make-up.
Media pushes this type of thinking onto teens who may feed into it more easily than adults...but are adults completely free of "media-lized" thinking themselves?
I think some parents are guilty of preaching to their kids how not to be influenced by peer pressure or the media...but I think that's kind of hard for kids to understand, with most advertisements of women being one's of them potraying themselves in some type of "sexy" way, as if that is their entire meaning for life.
I think the media influences the young and old...and I don't find anything wrong with showing off your "sexy"...but hopefully when you show it,it doesn't have to be for cash...I think the media emphasizes the wrong types of messages, and alot of us feed into them willing, semi-willingly, or semi-consiously...are we giving our men the right types of messages by feeding into "media-lized" thinking, and acting as the one's they see advertising "sexy" attached to a price tag?

Hello my friend
I never really got into the media hype, if you have to change yourself in order to be happy when push comes to shove you will still be unhappy with yourself because this is not who you are, now that I am older I am bored with my look and want to change my hair, really loving this lace front wig I see on youtube, when I make this change it will be for me not anyone else, some times you just want to do something different for yourself thats is how It see it, I will wear my wig with pride lol watching the woman on youtube made me want to do this, its fun and you can have different looks depending on you and how you feel any particular day, I can't wait to try this lol I am tired of my hair perming wash and sets they are starting to work my nerves so I want to give my hair a break and do something different for me. that is the only thing I want to change.
Great discussion my friend

I agree Kitty, changing yourself to fit someone elses standards isn't the reason why you should change your hair, make-up, etc...but if you decide to "upgrade" yourself and people notice...well hey, that's not bad either...lol

I don't think I want to cut my hair, but I like short syles on other people so much...I'm scared it may not look right on me though :-
) Wigs are nice sometimes, it gives you a break from having to fuss with your own when you don't feel it. lol

I am comfortable about myself,so I don't really give in to the media's pressure to be skinny or find a man.there are bad days for me,but I always think of what I really want, and I feel much better.I feel better because I don't really want to be skinny.in terms of relationship,if I'm meant to marry a man, then it'll happen whether I will it or not.I may fawn over models, but it doesn't mean I want them.
