I am now in my second year as "House Husband". I have got to grips with most of the chores and have to say that vacuuming is my favourite and ironing my least fave chore. I don't mind cleaning the bathroom and quite happily ""plunge the depths". What are your favourite and least favourite chores?

Hi pikefish! Since it's just me here it's not too hard to keep things pretty clean. But my favorite has always been doing laundry. I don't know why for sure, maybe because I've always liked organizing things, and the sorting, putting away, etc. seems organizational. I don't do much ironing, but don't mind it much either. My least favorite used to be doing the dishes, but after living with 2 roommates that could dirty every dish in the house in one day, seemingly just to drive me crazy, the few I have now are nothing. I really don't like scrubbing the tub & shower because, like others have said, it hurts my back! Oh, to be young again! :)

Favorites - laundry and grocery shopping. Least favorites - anything that hurts my back and ironing.

I have a house husband too, since I am physically unable to do a lot of chores. I really don't mind ironing, because i can sit down while I am doing it. I have no problem putting the ironing board up infront of the TV, plugging in the iron, and getting right to it. As long as I am not on my feet, I'm happy.

I would say laundry because it is the most time consuming, but I don't really hate it. I think I like vaccuming the most too, because I see all the stuff going up there. I think there is a real sense of accomplishment about that. I don't mind cleaning the bathrooms either it really does not take that long to do each one. I don't really iron any more. What I do is hang the clothes when they are 3/4 of the way dry. That weight they are still a little damp and the weight of the dampness pulls the wrinkles out. If there is something that needs ironed on occasion like a button down dress shirt, I have a steamer. The steamer is so much easier to use.

I personally loathe vacuuming. I dislike having to figure out what's wrong before I can get anything done. And there's always something wrong with the stupid thing. There never is when he uses it, but heaven forbid I should touch the cranky thing...
I love hanging clothes out on the line. It's so soothing to look out at the timber, feel the breeze on my face. And then I look down to see the 2 dogs avidly watching all those lovely new toys that are so much fun to yank on... Oh well. I let them in the house while things are drying. Safer and less worrying. I never really enjoyed seeing my underthings running across the yard...

I once had someone steal my knickers off of the washing line...I never did find out who it was though, I think that was probably for the best!!

I'm quite sure I'd pretend I'd never seen those things before rather than asking for them back!
It's kind of like when one does something not quite accepted (belch or the more easily hidden other thing). So much safer to look around accusingly like you weren't the one who did it... Usually works too.

My least favorite chore is scrubbing the bathrooms. cleaning the tub..and in other areas of the house..dusting.. it is a never ending job. I would say the most soothing would be vacuuming and doing the dishes(no dishwasher)I should aslo add that my least favorite thing is also cleaning closets..

You can come right over and clean this house being you like cleaning so much, p1ke. lol I don't mind vacuuming but mopping the floor kills my back before I'm even halfway through. Ironing isn't allowed in my house and the bathroom can well, take a sh*t. LOL Dusting is another chore I so despise. Now, back to mylotting..

Favorite thing? I don't have favorite exactly.... but I do plenty of laundry. I just hate putting it away because I can't get anyone to go thru their drawers and straighten things up or even find a path to their rooms. Very irritating!

find a path to their rooms I find that hilarious being I can totally relate to that with my 11yr old and her room. This morning, she announced that she had no clean clothes. Well, I did laundry and all mine and hubby's clothes got washed. Of course, THEY were all in the hamper. My daughter's clothes, however is where all kids put them...on the floor in the middle of the room. She sorted through them and picked out the cleanest of the dirty clothes to wear to school this am. She knows darn well that the only clothes that get washed are the ones in the hamper, NOTHING else. So..looks like she will be wearing dirty clothes till the kids start harassing her for smelling so bad.

I taught my daughter to do her own laundry when she was 10. It's her problem getting them washed and put away. I got tired of having to pick up everything on the floor to wash it, then listen to her complain cause nothing was put away right.
It's her job to get her own laundry done and put away. Nor will I allow it to sit in my laundry room. It can sit in her room till she feels like putting it away. She's 20 now, and does just fine on her own.
Just ignore the mess on the floor. I know it's hard, but it's so empowering knowing it's not your problem. Just make sure you teach them how to use the washing machine and dryer. If company comes, just close their door.
Let them put their own things away. My sis-in-law has 6 kids. She has a basket for each kid (I don't know how she keeps the sizes separate. She's a woman of many talents!) Once they are washed, it's the kid's problem getting them put away. If they're too slow, and the basket is still full when the next load of laundry comes out, then that basket gets dumped on their bed. They can put it away before going to bed. I tried that with my one, but she just slept on top of them. Sigh.

I quite like carpet sweeping (- rather than vacuuming, which always seems to result in injuries! ) I think all the other household chores probably just about tie for my least favourite, lol! ..Although dusting is maybe a bit lower than the others. I'm glad you're enjoying the housework. Maybe you could come and do some more here if you run out of tasks at P1kef1sh Towers?

That is so great to hear that you do some chores and enjoy vacuuming and ironing which is very rare in husbands. Specially the cleaning the bathroom. I could say that my favorite chore is cooking i could spend most of my time in the kitchen cooking. But my least favorite and which i hate most and will do almost anything to avoid is doing the laundry. I usually hire a laundry woman to do it for me when the budget allows it.

Keep practicing and smiling and you're going to make someone a great little servant one day P1key!
As far as me, I don't mind doing the cooking but I absolutely hate washing the windows.
When I wash the windows they always look worse when I am finished than when I started and wouldn't you know I had to choose to live in Holland where everyone has a thousand windows in their homes, all spotlessly clean! You always know the house I live in, just come to the neighborhood and look for the house with the dirtiest windows, I'm sure I will answer the door!

I hate housework. I don't mind the washing, that more or less does itself. I really hate ironing. What I do like is the satisfaction of seeing everything clean and tidy when I have my cleaning head on. Of course you like hoovering, it's a mans job.

I did the house husband for some time, and it really drove me nuts. I didnĀ“t mind the cleaning, ironing, cooking, etc. I just couldn't deal with the fact that when I reached the end of my daily chores, the task, like vacuum the carpet, I started the day off with had to be done again! Sure, with two toddlers around, that was to be expected, but I just couldn't say 'Well, just leave it until tomorrow.' Good luck to you.

There is no chore fully complete with kids in the hosue, that's for sure! Just when you think you have something done, you look back at it to see how awesome a job you did, and realize you have to do it all again. Gets old quick, that's for sure!

Wait...there are people out there that actually have chores that they enjoy???? Weird
We moved into this house about a year ago and I must saying that doing chores here is much easier than my last house, I am not real sure why because this place is twice as big as our last home but I can clean this whole house in half the time that I was able to that old place. I also have a feeling like this place stays cleaner longer...I know that may sound weird but I do feel that way. I think it has to do with the way it is set up.
I would have to say my favorite chore might be vacuuming as well although lately it hasn't been because my dog is shedding something fierce and it feels like all I am doing it vacuuming. My least favorite would either be mopping or cleaning the toilets. I have two boys here and some times they toilet seat is yucky although I must give them some sort of props because for boys they do fairly well at keeping the seat clean but it is still the worst chore mainly because of the thought of it. I don't mind cleaning though I actually do it quite often, some to the point to where I have been told I may have a small case of OCD...I just like things clean.

I love to clean my house. However, the least thing I like to do is mop the floors I hate it with a passion. Ironing would have to be my second, however I try to get things out of the dryer fast to avoid wrinkles. I hang up everything right away so I don't have to iron as much as I use too years ago.

My favorite? Hmmmm...let me think...is cooking considered a chore? If so, then that would be my favorite. Other than cooking, it would be washing dishes. I have time to just zone out and let my thoughts wonder while I am standing in front of the sink washing dishes. We have a dishwasher, but I don't use it all that often. Only when there are more dishes to wash than normal.
My least favorite would be a tie between keeping the garage, otherwise known as my husband's shop, clean and doing laundry. I could do without those two. The garage is not the easiest thing to organize, as it holds all of my husband's toold and such. This creates a headache for me. And the laundry, well...I wash the clothes of 6 people, four of which are 13 and younger and go through way too many clothes. Need I say more on that one?

I know where everything goes, and am a stickler for organization, so my husband has no problem letting me keep things neat. Not to mention, I am his GO-FER when he is working, so I need to know where everything is placed. When he goes out there he wants to be able to go straight to work on whatever project we are working on at the time.

I am too squeamish to 'plunge the depths' but I deal with the toilet by blasting it with bleach which gets rid of most nasties without any 'plunging' involved.
I hate ironing too as I find it quite difficult. I can iron something and it still looks creased so I go over it again.
My parents have an ironing machine (looks like an ironing board but without legs, has a hot cover that you bring down with a lever, leave for a couple of seconds and then lift up). This is like magic and it irons shirts perfectly instead of having to faff around the collar and stuff. Maybe treat yourself?
