I actually use dark makeup more than I do light makeup. I used to do modeling gigs years ago and really got used to the different looks that were expected of me. Even though I didn't like some of them, others did. I think that you need to learn the right way to apply makeup for your eyes and your face shape. After you figure that out, you will be able to do your own variations for the dark makeup/smokey eye look. Not all eyes are the same so you cannot expect to apply the colors at the same spots and get the same look. I went to MAC a few times and had them do my makeup for me before some of my gigs. I came out totally uncomfortable and had to reapply the whole thing. One of my close friends is a makeup artist and she said that I actually know how to do the shading for my eyes and that the particular girls I went to at the MAC counter were doing it wrong. That would explain why I would always leave from there looking like a clown. Anyway, after really being accustomed to the shape of my eyes and the depth of my lid, I feel comfortable wearing both dark adn light makeup. Anyway, just do a little research and practice it one night. You'll eventually get it down and it will look great! Good luck!

You know what might work? Try using other dark colors besides back. I started with browns. You can make it look dark by the other color that you blend with it. For instance, I would put the dark brown close to my at the bottom of my lid and let it go a little past the crease. Then you could use a lighter brown or a shimmer to blend it up above the crease. Then just use black eyeliner. Once you get used to putting it on with not so dark colors, then try it with black.

hi! using dark colors are fine but it will depend of how you do it. it has to base on your eye shape. It doesn't mean what looks good on her might be the same for you. you use a another kind of technique when using darks colors. try to incorporate the light a dark color with a light one, in that way your eyes will not look sleepy or dipressing. remember we have base it on the shape of our eyes. Make an illusion. do upward strokes when applying eyeshadow, eyeliner and use mascara too. you can still do a smokey eye just use the technique that will work best for you. i recommend that u check camilla belle's make up. do u know her right? look her up and check out the ones that she is wearing with the dark colored make up. i hope this help.
