...you have a head or chest cold?
When I'm sick, there's nothing I like better than a nice big bowl of good hot chili. I like the spice because it clears out my sinuses, and when I have a sore through, the texture of the chili going down, feels really good. When I'm sick my wonderful husband makes darn sure to keep the pantry stocked with the best chili out there.

Hi danishcanadian, if I feel a cold coming on the best food I find to eat is a good bowl of Thai tom yon soup as it is mostly clear but very hot and sharp and does the trick well. I have some jars of the actual paste which is the base in water and they last forever, and it's the simplest thing to make. Just add chillies, spring onions, prawns or chopped chicken, and tofu, for the perfect head clearer.

Eating more Chilli is not good for health. In our house we prepare jeera and black pepper Rasam with tamarind juice, i.e. boil tamarind juice, little jeera powder, black pepper powder, salt and turmeric powder which is good for cold, boil for ten minutes and mix it with white rice and eat. You will feel heavenly. This pepper will give the same tangent effect to your cold throat.

I don't know if there's any strange foods that I want when I'm sick. I do know that I want chicken soup though. It's just like total comfort food. I actually prefer chicken and dumplings though especially if I have made it which, if I'm sick, I did not since I'm sick. It's been a hard day, maybe I'm not making much sense

I really love a super hot cup of garlic broth. It can be part chicken broth too, but the garlic has to be prominent. And for some reason it has to be scorching hot. Mmmmm, tasty.

I love to eat chili too when I am sick or any other time for that matter. I like to eat chicken noodle soup sometimes too. I prefer to eat chili the most though. I love to make it hot and spicy.

Well, being down with the H1N1 virus. (yes, on top of the Mono from two weeks ago...probably caused from having a weakened immune system.)
I can definately tell you about strange eating habits. For the last 2 weeks, nothing has tasted worth a flip: except french fries and gravy and bananas popscicles.
Then when the flu bug hit, the greasy stuff went away and for three days, I've been able to keep nothing down except the banana popscicles, and the clear soup that you get from the Japanese Restaurants with your meals!
Go figure right!

For some reason, I love to eat chicken soup with and
an egg inside everytime I'm sick since it gives me
a great deal of energy.

I just want to relax. Its Chili Cheese Fritos and a cold Dr. Pepper. I know it sounds nasty to some but its my comfort food when watching mindless television. I always make sure to keep plenty of gum on hand to combat the aroma of corn chips and Dr. Pepper.

The only time I can stand to eat vinegar and salt chips, is when I have a cold. Otherwise, forget it! the vinegar is great at clearing up the sinuses as well, and when I have a really bad cold I cannot taste a thing, except vinegar! for some reason though, it really tastes good with a cold.

gosh, one day I decided to try some chili - boy was I sorry
now, remember, I haven't really eaten ANY chili since the 1980's so when I tried some about 5 years ago, I was in PAIN.
for me, Ranch Style Beans are as close to chili as I get...
I do love soup when I'm sick and pretty much it has to be homemade because most of the stuff in cans I can't eat...

When I start to feel the old sinuses coming on I dive into a jar of salsa. I keeps my nose running and my eyes watering, but it knocks it out before it knocks me down.

I agree that the spicy foods help clear out the sinuses. Jalepenos are great for that! I also like to eat Chicken Noodle soup. If I feel really sick though, I don't really eat at all.
