I have insomia. I've tried a warm glass of milk. Yuck!
I've also tried counting backwards, getting everything dark, cool, and quite, I've tried "relaxing" my breathing. The only thing I have found to work for me is sleeping aids but I do not want to have to live the rest of my life only being able to sleep if I have a pill of some sort.
Got any suggestions?

I hate warm glasses of milk too. Ew. Who ever thought of that?
I find the best thing is to have a routine before bed. Turn off the computer, your music, and your TV at least an hour before you go to bed. Spend time doing something relaxing or mundane before you lie down, like taking a shower, writing in a journal, or reading a book. If you can't sleep because your mind is too active then you might try getting a fan or an ambience machine to listen to. It's best to consult a doctor though.

Hey robs, insomnia is the worst thing that can happen to a person as a deep sleep is the cure of many pains. For a good sleep you just take a warm water shower and massage your feet with luke warm mustard oil briskly and then go to sleep. You will definetly experience a sound sleep.
